1. J.K. Rowling:
She is the creator of the magical, thrilling and captivating world of Harry Potter. Often regarded as the Most Influential Woman in Britain, she is an author who has had over 450 million copies of her bestselling book series sold the world over. She is said to have had the epiphany for the book on a delayed train trip Manchester to London in the year 1990. Her books reflect her ability to imagine further than the ambit of everyday life. Movies based on her book have always been premier grossers at the box office. However, the greatest gift of Rowling is the introduction of the big and wonderful world of books to young readers. Through the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling tapped into that corner of our imagination that begged for a first-rate fantasy series.

2. Jane Austen:
Jane Austen was the illustrious author of works like Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma; books that adorn the shelves of every fiction enthusiast. Her works typically illustrated the condition of women in the Victorian Era where marriage was the culmination of all things good in life for woman. It was her pragmatism that brought her to the notice of intellectuals but that unfortunately happened long after her death. Born in Hampshire, England, in the year 1775, she enjoyed very limited fame as an author during her lifetime. The notable aspect about Austen is that her novels were published at a time when there were hardly any female authors or academia around. Almost two centuries since her time but her books still remain a favorite and are found in every thriving book store across the world.

Among the best suspense fiction writers to have graced the world of Literature, Agatha Christie is a name to reckon with among the English academia. She is often referred to as the ‘Queen of Crime’ and has influenced some of the best writers in the world. According to the Guinness Book of World records she is the bestselling novelist of all time with around four billion copies of her books being sold. Her bestselling novels include Murder on the Orient Express, And Then There Were None and Death on the Nile to name a few. Such is the popularity and love for Agatha Christie’s work, that it is said that after William Shakespeare she is the most read author around the world.

4. Virginia Woolf:
An English writer regarded as among the most influential female authors of the 20th century, Virginia Woolf was and still is known for her modernistic writing. It was in 1900 with a piece on Haworth, the home of the Bronte Family, that Woolf began her profession writing sojourn. Her famous works include Mrs. Dalloway, Orlando and A Room of One's Own. The influences of Shakespeare, Eliot and Tolstoy are quite evident in her works. She was undoubtedly a great novelist and essayist and it was a tremendous loss to the fraternity of novelists and her ardent readers when she committed suicide in the year 1941 by drowning.

5. Stephenie Meyer:
The award winning creator of the Vampire Romance Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer is a well known children’s novelist and producer. Her books have been transformed into the silver screen with equally positive response and hysteria worldwide. Often asked about the inspiration for the novel; Stephenie attributes the idea to a dream. She is a self confessed Jane Austen enthusiast and is also influenced by the Bronte Sisters; Shakespeare in her works. After J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer too has contributed to trigger a spike in reading as a hobby specifically among the young adult in a time where Nintendos and Facebook rules the roost.

Mary Anne Evans wrote under the pen name of George Eliot. She was an English novelist of the Victorian Era. It is said that she wrote under a male pseudonym for she wanted her readers to not ridicule her work. Some of her novels include The Mill on the Floss, Silas Marner and Middlemarch which has been illustrated as the finest novel in English Language by Julian Barnes and Martin Amis.

7. Toni Morrison:
Toni Morrison was an American writer who was known for her exception writing abilities. She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in the year 1993 and Pulitzer Prize in the year 1987 for her work Beloved. The Bluest Eye, Sula and Song of Solomon are some of her other noted works. Her works were mostly centered on black women as she advocated equality in all spheres for all. However, she wasn’t too fond of being termed as a feminist unlike a lot of her contemporaries.

8. Jhumpa Lahiri
The author of Interpreter of Maladies and The Namesake Jhumpa Lahiri is one of the best modern day female authors. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her collection of short stories Interpreter of Maladies in the year 2000 and O. Henry Award for the same in the year 1999. Her first novel The Namesake was adapted for the silver screen. Her second collection of short stories published in the year 2008 was Unaccustomed Earth. Like her first Pulitzer Prize winning short story collection, this too reflected the lives of two separate cultures and the way people deal with each other.

You cannot love reading and not know about Danielle Steel! She is an acclaimed romantic novelist. Over 800 million copies of her books have been sold and several adapted for television. Several best sellers later she still is among the most read novelists in the world. Wanderlust, The Promise and Country are just among the long list of her eternal creations. Her works have a worldwide audience and have been translated in 28 languages the world over. Danielle Steel has often been criticized for her plots which have been termed as superficial but that haven’t deterred her superior fan base.

10. Margaret Atwood
Margaret Atwood is a Canadian poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, teacher, environmental activist and inventor. Since 1961, she has published 18 books of poetry, 18 novels, 11 books of non-fiction, nine collections of short fiction, eight children's books, and two graphic novels, as well as a number of small press editions of both poetry and fiction. Atwood has won numerous awards and honors for her writing. A number of her works have been adapted for film and television like The Handmaid's Tale and Alias Grace, increasing her exposure. A variety of themes are present in her work including gender and identity, religion and myth, the power of language, climate change, and "power politics". Many of her poems are inspired by myths and fairy tales which interested her from a very early age.

3. Davis became famous as a songwriter and got his start as an employee of Nancy Sinatra's company, Boots Enterprises, Inc. Davis was with Boots for several years in the late 1960s. During his time there, he played on many of Sinatra's recordings, and she worked him into her stage shows. Boots Enterprises also acted as Davis's publishing company, publishing songs such as "In the Ghetto", "Friend, Lover, Woman, Wife", "Home", "It's Such a Lonely Time of Year", and "Memories".

4. One of the songs he wrote in 1968, called "A Little Less Conversation", was recorded by Elvis Presley (and would become a posthumous success for Presley years later). 5. Davis left Boots Enterprises in 1970 to sign with Columbia Records, taking all of his songs with him. His big success came two years after signing with Columbia. He topped the Country and Pop charts with the song "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me". It sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by the Recording Industry Association of America in September 1972. Some of Davis's lyrics invoked overtly sexual relationships. In the song "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me", he pleads with a woman not to become too enamored with him, because he does not want to commit to a full-time relationship. Other hit songs by Davis, such as "Naughty Girl" and "Baby Spread Your Love on Me", contained similar lyrics.

6. In 1974, Davis was awarded the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year award. He had other successes including the songs "Stop and Smell the Roses" (a number one Adult Contemporary success in 1974) (pop no. 9), "One Hell of a Woman" (pop no. 11), "Rock 'N' Roll (I Gave You the Best Years of My Life)" (pop no. 15), and "Burnin' Thing" (pop no. 53). At the end of the 1970s, he moved to Casablanca Records, which was best known at the time for its successes with disco star Donna Summer and rock'n'roll band Kiss. His first success for the company in 1980 was the novelty song "It's Hard to Be Humble", a light-hearted look at how popularity and good looks could go to one's head. The song became his first Country music top 10 and a rare top 30 hit in the UK.

7. From 1974 to 1976, Davis had his own television variety show on NBC, The Mac Davis Show. He made his feature film debut opposite Nick Nolte in the football film, North Dallas Forty (1979) Davis acted in a couple of movies plus he hosted an episode of The Muppet Show. Davis played Will Rogers in the Broadway production of The Will Rogers Follies and in the national tour. He also did the voice for two characters in King of the Hill.

At the 1997 Grammy Awards, No Doubt was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Rock Album. Later, they were nominated for two more Grammys for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, both for "Don't Speak.” Due to the success of Tragic Kingdom, the band's debut album began again to sell copies, and reached total sales of over a quarter of a million copies.

The couple now have two children—Kingston James McGregor Rossdale and Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale. The following year in 2003, No Doubt released a greatest hits album called The Singles 1992-2003.

In a June 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Stefani expressed uncertainty over the future of No Doubt. "I don't know what's going to happen with No Doubt. When Tony [Kanal] and I are connected creatively, it's magic. But I think we've grown apart as far as what kind of music we want to make. I was really drained and burned out when we recorded that album [2012's Push and Shove]. And I had a lot of guilt: 'I have to do it.' That's not the right setting to make music. There's some really great writing on that record. But the production felt really conflicted. It was sad how we all waited that long to put something out and it didn't get heard." Still, over the course of almost 2 decades, No Doubt won numerous awards and made several indelible contributions to the world of music.

On December 11, 2007, Trebek suffered a minor heart attack at his home. He had another heart attack, an injured Achilles tendon, and a subdural hematoma.

Seneca Falls, New York, claims that Frank Capra was inspired to model Bedford Falls after the town after a visit in 1945. The town has an annual "It's a Wonderful Life Festival" in December. In mid-2009, The Hotel Clarence opened in Seneca Falls, named after George Bailey's guardian angel. On December 10, 2010, the "It's a Wonderful Life" Museum opened in Seneca Falls, with Karolyn Grimes, who played Zuzu in the movie, cutting the ribbon. However, film historian Jeanine Basinger, curator of the Frank Capra archives at Wesleyan University and author of The 'It's A Wonderful Life' Book, has said no evidence exists for Seneca Falls' claim.
Philip Van Doren Stern said in a 1946 interview, "Incidentally, the movie takes place in Westchester County (New York). Actually, the town I had in mind was Califon, N.J." The historic iron bridge in Califon is similar to the bridge that George Bailey considered jumping from in the movie.
