I wish there were more balls. I think they are excellent social events that allow people to meet others they wouldn't normally meet and also get dressed up and have fun. I would love to go to masquerade balls. Yay for JASNA and there Ball festivities :) Now if only they could convince everybody else that Balls are cool...
I think it's pretty awesome. I told my brother, who collects conductor action figures like Bach, that I was going to buy a second one that I could play with and take out of the box. The Jane mug sounds like fun! I've been looking for t-shirts but haven't found the right one yet.
I got the Jane Austen Action figure (not a book, I know, but still Austen) and Jane Austen for Dummies.

Those little intimate details are my favorite and I wish more movies had them. I think that little bit shows so much of what was going on for a person that tried not to show emotion and means a lot more. The phrase "show don't tell" applies here. Beautifully done.

Thanks! Persuasion is the first Austen novel I finished and I'm closer to the heroine's age so I think that one will always be special to me. Pride and Prejudice is classic :)

Now that I'm done I should probably revisit this. Out of curiosity, where do they usually hold the annual meetings or does it change from year to year?
My regional sponsor was supposed to send out a newsletter to those that signed a list but he hasn't gotten to it and I believe he is going on sabbatical this next semester.
Also, a Jane Austen ball would be AMAZING! Simplicity put out a dress pattern for that period about when the 2005 movie of P&P came out but it may not be simplistic enough to turn out in a week. Unless you have lots of time.
I totally agree that the actors should read the books before they portray literary characters. It's called research. Every professional should do it. Aside from that I think when comparing LOtR and 2005 P&P you have to keep in mind the writers AND the directors.
I love Matthew MacFayden and I liked his character in the 2005 version. However, like a lot of you, I didn't feel that his character was THE Darcy. I read somewhere that he hadn't read P&P and was basing his version directly from the script which could be a major cause of the difference. It seemed to me that his version was more young, shy and awkward person while we expect a more developed, cultured...and, ahem, Proud version.I enjoyed the 2005 movie as a quick, pretty and light film that I can have on in the background but it's not near as wonderful as the 1995 mini-series. Then again, it's hard to put that much detail into a short film.
Hi!My name is Abby and I'm a Library Assistant. I was briefly introduced to Austen my first year of college but didn't have a change to actually realize what I was looking at until a friend introduced me to the BBC version of P&P. I love Austen's stories and I think the way she wrote her characters was amazing. My favorites are Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion.
