48160 Well hello there! I'm Laurens, a Dutch thirty-year-old and today marks the day I've published my literary debut novel Maanscherf (English: "Moon Shard").

So far, this has been a phenomenal day. I'm profoundly grateful. Unfortunately for me, though, the novel is currently available in Dutch only. But maybe, just maybe, one day... An author can dream. It's part of the job.

Anyway, I'll translate the Dutch book summary for you:

"The morning horizon is still colored byzantine when ornithologist Alphonse 'Fons' van Felius rents a sailing boat in a somnolent French coastal village and sets sail for Les Sept Îles, an archipelago hosting tremendous flocks of ghannets.

During his tempestuous journey Fons inimitably connects the Great Events that have happened throughout and have impacted his life the most. These newfound insights supercharge his feeble presumptions that birds are the harbingers of destiny after all, no matter how inconsolable they turn out to be with the voices of reason. What started off as an innocent sailing expedition gradually turns into a spiritual quest propelling Fons to the brink of collapse, fighting the good fight to avoid tipping over.

Maanscherf is a Bildungsroman about fathers and sons, friendship, identity, and what happens to a fragile mind when life, loaded with certainties and, is minutely dismantled by the relentless forces of nature."

Hope the summary makes some sense, as English is not my mother tongue. Among other vendors, Maanscherf is now available on the Dutch Amazon website.

Here's to you, my colleagues!
