I'm originally from California, but I moved to Tennessee when I was 12 and have lived here ever since.

I just finished reading this and I am glad that I did. The one thing that I really like about Lois Lowry's writing is that she can write books with such mature themes, and yet, do it in such a way that isn't too graphic. I personally think that it would be ok for middle school kids to read as long as long as someone talks to them about the more disturbing parts of the story.
