48724 Read The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. It was good...intense. Definitely none of this pansy Fifty Shades...which I'm almost through with the series.

48724 so, I guess I already won the challenge since I don't have any books in my "to-read" section. That was the easiest task EVER!

Haha! But seriously, I know I'm not going to win anything since I've been a book club slacker (sorry!) but I add books to my "to-read" list and start.

48724 Okay, just finished When She Woke. I feel like that should count for my red and Bodega book. Lol! I'll decide later and let you know.

Super excited!

Btw, loved the book!

Li, maybe I'll read Cleopatra.

48724 Great question! If the library has it, I read it in paper form. If there is a wait and I really want to read it, I will buy it for my ereader. I have iRiver that runs android, which allows me to read books on Google ebooks. I'm currently frustrated, because I cannot find "When She Woke". Arg! Does anyone else have a problem finding books for the ereader?

On another note, I love the ereader for a few reasons. I can carry multiple books (and it doesn't weigh me down). It's easy to read when I do cardio at the gym. Last, but not least, I'm re-reading the classics. Currently I'm reading Great Expectations. As many of you who had Ms. Guaze for freshman English remember, we read it. Or at the least watched the movie and read Cliff's Notes. Anyway, it's a little different than I remember. I've also read Anna Karenina and a bunch of Jane Austin books. Tried to read Wuthering Heights, but couldn't get through it.

So, Sarah, there is a long answer to your very short question. :)
48724 Yeah, this book def too me a little longer to get through. I thought it was life, but maybe it was because it didn't captivate me like the others. I liked the ending. Felt like that's what it should have been from the beginning. It's crazy how ppl get their priorities mixed up when it's personal.
48724 towards the end. They are talking to the boss of the Right Wing. Let's see what happens.
48724 finished the book this morning. so...ended up taking a later shuttle. lol

Okay, I liked the book. Didn't breeze through it as quickly. There were times when it made me mad - I didn't want to read on. However, eventually got over it, then couldn't put it down.

I think Brenda in the girl that he couldn't see in one of his memories. Maybe she is Rachel, but I find it peculiar that Aris didn't seem to recognize her. I wish I could start book 3 right now. Guess it's best that it doesn't come out for a month.

Abby and Sam, you are both right. Why can't these kids get a break?! My heart hurts for them. Just when things seem to slow down, a wrench is thrown in. I definitely felt Thomas's pain, betrayal, and eventual need to no longer care. There is a great Buddhist (paraphrased) saying about pain coming from wanting what we don't have. Hopefully Thomas's emotional pain will become less now that he no longer has expectations.
48724 I'm so excited that I already have the library looking for it, for me. I usually don't look for the books until a wk or two into the month. I know, slacker!!
Book Trailers (26 new)
Aug 16, 2011 07:37PM

48724 I didn't realize that they make real trailers for books. Man, am I out of touch with the future. Haha!
48724 Done! Read it in a day and a half, plus a night :). (It helps that I don't have any kids). Enjoyed it. I agree with most if not all the comments that you ladies stated.

Honestly, I still don't know what's going on. And I've read the first two chapters of the next book. Yikes!
48724 1. While I was reading Maze Runner, it did remind me of Hunger Games. I see it as the male version of Hunger Games. I liked Hunger Games better. Maybe HG's lead being a female is the reason why.
It also felt like HG because it focused on a group of teenagers "surviving" in an environment that was completely created. There were the Creators who watched and took notes, almost like they enjoyed torturing the kids. The kids had to do "super-human" things to stay alive.

2. Yes, there were times I wanted to know. I was Thomas, needed all questions answered and more. However, I think me (the reader) experienced Thomas situation a little more. We could identify with his frustration when things weren't answered and his curiosity.

3. Great question

4. The language did not effect my experience in a negative way. It was part of the book. I think they developed their lingo to make the place theirs.

5. They are responsible, because they are intelligent. Most kids want to be told what to do. They like order. The leaders of the Glade created that atmosphere with daily routines.

6. Another great question. She was a catalyst.

7. Maybe bro and sis or lovers. Since they are so young, I'm thinking bro and sis.

8. Hope. Once you give up, there is no reason to live.

9. I think the grievers injected the Clank (?). Or, they were there for fear.

10. The serum that they are giving during the changing causes them to remember and/or see the future. I think it's a side effect of the medicine. It may also be a way for the Creators to "see" into their brains.

11. I think he saw what the world was like outside of the Maze. He also saw how things would pan out.

12. The memories are true.

13. Well, I'm not 100% sure what they were trying to do. It seemed like they were looking for a cure, maybe. That part is a little fuzzy to me. There were comments that made it seem like they were being tortured more than probably necessary. So, no, I do not think they were justified. They were treating them like rats in an experiment. If they didn't kill them off, then I would have felt like it was just.

14. I will keep my comments to myself since I've already started reading Torch, the 2nd book.

15. Yes, because I read the first 2 chapters (smart of them to put it in the back) and I'm hooked. Don't know if I would've read it if it wasn't there.

48724 All sound good. The Maze Runner, The Stupidest Angel and Goon Squad sound good and pretty light. Well, maybe not Maze Runner. The Book Thief sounds good, but intense.

And Abby, I finished "One Day". It was great. A fun light reading.

48724 Hey guys, I'm Steph! Currently living in San Francisco, CA and working at Google in the South Bay. I'm originally from FL and know everyone on the thread, so far. With an hour (or so) commute everyday (each way) and work that never ends, I don't have a lot of free time to read. But when I do, I love it. I'm excited about our book club and look forward to "spending time" with my friends.
