48786 Hi Lori! Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear about your condition.

Katherine makes a good point. Using your intuition is a good way to get going. However, I would also look at mind-based practice, such as meditation, which is a very practical way to live in the moment and let go.

I have a free meditation guide I would be happy to mail you if you privately message me an email. There is loads on the internet that can help also. Just google "Mindfulness with Breathing" and you'll find a great book by a Buddhist Monk named Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, who really makes it simple. This link www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/anapanasat...
has a free download of the book in PDF format. Very inspirational and, as you'll see, while it is Buddhist, it is not religious in the "God" sense you mentioned in your post. :)

"The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle slings to mind as another possibility. Although it doesn't deal specifically with physical trauma, it does guide people to get their mind in the right place to deal with anything life throws at us.

Hope this helps

Much love

Mike

48786 I love anything by Thich Nhat Hanh, which is not strictly meditation, but is awareness and compassion. I also read a lot by Venerable Ajarn Budhhadasa Bhikhu, a well-respected Thai Monk who led an evolution in Thai Buddhism in the 70's and 80's.

I must admit, I don't read much anymore. I'm actually more a writer. But I love the medium with a passion. There is nothing more wonderful than a book. Let's hook up as friends and stay in touch. All the best x

48786 Hi Laura, I haven't read any of her work, but I hear it is very good. I read "The Secret" some years ago, which was very inspiring at the time but I prefer meditation books for self-help these days as I have found many of the LOA works to be focussed on getting people to want more physical stuff. That isn't a comment on what you're reading, or a judgment, btw. I have a great deal of respect for Esther and Jerry and the wonderful work they have done in their life time. Great to hook up with you.
