Hi Carol- thanks for thinking of me! Baby Samuel and I are doing so well. I am tired but very happy. I know I have your email somewhere- but can you repost? I would be happy to send a pic!
Hey ladies! In anticipation of my upcoming maternity leave, I'm looking for recommendations for good TV series that I can get on DVD or Netflix. Something I don't need a ton of brain power to enjoy- I am infinitely impressed by the lovely Ashley for reading so much with young babies.
Thanks! :)
I wasn't as excited that they went back to Nigeria- it definitely seemed naive and maybe a little over-altruistic. I agree that what happened after the book ended wasn't good for any of them, sadly.
I wanted to know more about Yevette- her backstory, and what happened to her when she woke up on the farm. I loved the way her words were written and, while not realistic, it would've been interesting had she teamed up with Little Bee.
I gave it a 4- not many things keep my interest these days and this was a book that kept me interested and surprised.
I've only read a handful of narratives in second person, but I think it worked well in this instance. I agree that it makes her message harder to ignore, since she's not just talking to a "reader," she's talking to this specific reader.
This book brought up some heavy and important issues. Did any of it "stick" in your head after completing the book? Any cause further research or action?
Little Bee often spoke of "you" or "your country." Who was she speaking to? Was this an effective way to tell her story and share her views?
How did you feel about the ending, both as the trio took off to Nigeria to gather stories, and when Little Bee was captured? Was this a satisfying ending? And does it matter if it wasn't satisfying?
This book, like others we have read, has two narrators. Did it work for what the author was trying to accomplish? Were they believable?
I finished the book and am ready to go with questions! Ashley- can you set up a discussion folder? In other news, we are in baby's due date month and my house looks like Babies R Us exploded :)
I didn't read the book but I am plenty OCD!I love M&Ms but have to eat them in a specific way. First all the brown ones, then two at a time in pleasing color combos (ie blue and green is good, but not red and green because too Christmassy) until 5 in the rainbow are left, then I eat all those at once.
I also used to have to touch the stove before leaving the house until I burned my hand the one time it was actually left on! Now I just check the "hot" light which I never had before.
Those are my main ones :). Besides being majorly anxious about pretty much everything and always thinking I left all the doors unlocked while driving to work. Even doors that I didn't use.
I wish we could've seen more about their friendship... Though I suppose it's hard to flesh out a character who is in and out of consciousness for much of her time. It was also interesting that she was friends with Zeddies sister. Carol- does Frieda show up in any of the other books?
