But that’s where I get confused: if Stephen is an autobiographical version of Joyce, why introduce the man in the macintosh as another version of himself?
Maybe the man in the macintosh is the version of Joyce he aspired to be? Joyce was reported to have schizophrenia, so the man in the macintosh could be the other part of Joyce in opposition to Stephen?
Just throwing thoughts out into the universe!!
