50195 Ok ill start :-D

My favourite book is Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Now, I adore all of Juliet's books, but this one would have to be my favourite.

"A beautiful retelling of the Celtic "Swans" myth, Daughter of the Forest is a mixture of history and fantasy, myth and magic, legend and love... To reclaim the lives of her brothers, Sorcha leaves the only safe place she has ever known and embarks on a journey filled with pain, loss and terror. When she is kidnapped by enemy forces and taken to a foreign land, it seems that there will be no way for Sorcha to break the spell that condemns all that she loves. But magic knows no boundaries, and Sorcha will have to choose between the life she has always known and a love that comes only once."

Its full of adventure, intrigue, celtic mythology and of course, romance. The writing is beautiful, as is the story itself.

I would reccommend this one to older teens and adults, as there are some themes in the book that would be a bit too mature for younger teens.

So far I have reccommended this to everyone who asks me for a book reccommendation. I love this book, and It has not moved from the No.1 spot scince i first read it when I was 16.

50195 On Friday 5th of August I got the opportunity to meet the lovely author of the fantastic Fallen series, Lauren Kate.

There were about 40-50 people at this event, ranging in ages, but all sharing the love and interest in these books. Lauren arrived to the lovely book shop that is Riverbend book store at Bulimba, who has, against all odds, remained a thriving and busy little shop despite the boom of online book shopping.

Lauren started the event off with introducing herself and talking with the group about how much she has loved touring Australia. This was the second last stop on her Fallen book tour, and you could see that she was getting a little tired, as you do when you have about 3 different book signings/events in the one day immediately after each other, right across captial cities and sometimes states!

She did a reading of her latest book in the series, Passion, explaing the process of writing it and even describing how Passion was initially contracted to be a prequal to the Fallen trilogy. However, Lauren felt that she didnt want to distrupt the flow of the story and incorporated the prequal elements of the story into a continuation of the overall series.

Questions were then asked about Lauren and her writign process and the Fallen series in general. Laren described who some of the characters were based on (in particular her husband (naw, cute!) and someone with particularly droolworthy abs :-P, i think we know which character Im referring to here...)

Lauren was gracious in entertaining our fangirl requests of signing multpile copies of books and book marks, taking photos with everyone and having conversations with each group that came. Yes, there was aso the opportunity to have a photo on the poster backdrop of the Fallen book cover, and yes, I did this too, but I didnt pose, I just took a photo with a friend :-P.

Lauren was wonderful, a beautiful person and enjoyable to talk and listen to. The Fallen series is set to conclude in June 2012, with Rapture. But there are many other works in progress including short stories to entertain us while we wait for Rapture, as well as her other novel, The betrayal of Natalie Hargrave.

Check out the other discussion for the Enchanting Lexis page about the Giveaway!!

Happy reading :-D

50195 Amarabati wrote: "Alice wrote: "hey im alice :)

Lol I think I can have a go at answering that one!(cause I tell people all the time why I love it and love it not so much) Although Alice definately feel free to contradict me.

First of all, I love Twilight...the books, the movies kinda ruined it for me a little, but ive moved on from that now i think lol.

They are good books, and i read them twice after i first got them (i finished them and then kept thinking about them so i read them again lol) so for a while i was in my own little world where twilight was good, and fantastic and brilliant. But I also hadn't really read anything else in thet genre (plenty of history and literature etc, but not actually much YA or paranormal) so my veiw was limited.
looking back now, there are a few flaws that make the book - for me- not so fantastic as it originally was. Like the fact that Bella ceases to live after Edward leaves her, or the fact that she never fully gets why Edward is in love with her (got a little annoying) and the fact that there isnt really much action! Even the big fight scene had nothing much to it. Although i will concede by saying there were a few good fights in it.

Also people read books differently. So while I may LOVE a book, some else might hate it equally as much.

lol so thats why it lost a few stars when i'd re-read after all the hype was over. Still a good read but also changed slightly as i got older and wiser (ha ha)

50195 So Ill get us started!
My Name is Shannon, and like I said add me so I can follow all ur reviews :-)

I like to read mostly YA(which is a pretty broad genre now) so ill narrow that one down and say YA/paranormal/adventure/romance, but I have a good collection of Fantasy and Historical fiction as well. Oh and I have also started to love Dystopians!

The book that started me reading (seriously reading) was Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier, which also happens to be my all time favourite book. In fact I reccomend all of Juliet's books! :-)
