I've read the book (it's been a while) but I recall then and even now as I revisit the characters via the YouTube reading it's a funny thing they all appear in my head as people from the 70's!
(A little late to the game but... I started listening to the YouTube read-through mentioned above: it's excellent!)
People know the Summer of '69 thanks to Bryan Adams but shout out for Summer of 1816! Can you imagine how cool that must have been to be part of the perfect storm of spending time at Lake Geneva in what turned out to be one of the ultimate Creative Writing Camps that resulted in Frankenstein.
I gotta admit The Colour Out of Space hitting the big screen sounds exciting. I'm going to keep my expectations low and hopefully be surprised!Fhtagn!
Related: suspension of disbelief rocks in this context. Especially as modern readers we need to remember us as kids daydreaming of being on a Mars with a breathable atmosphere. I'm cool with the mystical transportation to and from Mars. We hand-wave that and get on with the adventure. I have a harder time with any interpretation with two bodies existing at the same time.
>> Was there anything that didn’t ring true, or that the text later seemed to contradict?I'm interested in how much scientific knowledge we had on Mars back in the day. How much did ERB make up? There was some mention of relative mountain sizes and stuff like that as I recall.
I love these classics not just for the pure fun of the story, but because they give us a snapshot of the time when they were written! 1912 I believe women's suffrage was in full swing. Some short years later the right to vote would be granted. In light of this, I vote heroine!
