I have just finished a reading on the Naismith website for the basketball hall of fame, and I can say that I, even knowing as much as I do, it informed me a great deal on the history of basketball. The purpose of the article was supposed to inform the reader on what basketball was, who created it, and how it started, and how it built up to what it is today. The audience that it was addressing was probably basketball fans everywhere, and of every kind. Anybody that would want to learn more about basketball should check that out. Yes, because it was the Naismith website which The Naismith family founded and wrote 13 original rules about basketball, so yes it was reasonable, non bias info about basketball. I mean how can you be bias about a nationwide sport that has taken over America and most of Europe. It is growing, and very interesting. It is a simple and fun, yet very complicating sport that is taking over the world.
The article "Sorry for Not Being A Stereotype" applies to the Absolute True Diary because one both of the main characters are both Native American people who grew up in poor places on reservations. They also apply to each other because in both circumstances, the white people around them make fun of them and they both think to themselves that they both dont deserve all of this hatrid from the people around them just because they are different and lucky because of talents they have.Arnold's life is a little bit different from the narrarator of the other story because Arnold is just coming into the world that this other talent that wrote the short story overcame in her life but Arnold is about to face it and he is coming on strong.
I think that Arnold told Rowdy that he would die if he stayed at the rez is because he already isn't on the right track, and to top it off by the way Mr. P and Arnold has seen the way it has been going with all of the other students, Rowdy would be lucky if he was successful. I think that that was the main reason he said that, but some other seasons might be because he is a good friend, and also because he doesn't want to leave his only friend or else he really won't have anyone to talk to and someone to protect him.I think Rowdy doesn't want to go because he doesn't want to be an innovator and be like Arnold who actually has some dreams for his life like being a drawer. We have already seen the effects of the rez on Arnold's sister who, from Mr. P's perspective, actually had some talent in what she wants and likes to do. But the rez got the best of her. In my mind, I think that Rowdy will end up the exact same if he doesn't take up on Arnold's offer. I think that the reason why Rowdy punched Arnold is because he knew he was wrong so that punch was like saying 'shut up I know I'm wrong'.
When Mr. P said that he wanted to "Kill the indian to save the child" he didnt really mean he wanted to kill the Indians, he used it to say that the common indian life of being poor and isolated was not a good way for smart indian kids like Arnold and his sister to grow up. That is why Arnold's sister ran away from home after her writing dreams were crushed. Mr. P wanted to kill the indian lifestyle and get all of those unfocused talents into a better place where they can strive.I think what Arnold means by "She would prefer to be trapped" means that she wanted to live the same lifestyle as all the other normal indians who have a lesser potential than she does, she doesnt want to think outside the box, and that to me makes me think that thats the reason why she gave up and became an "underground dweller"
I asked my mom what item of her's was very memorable and important , and she said it was her dads watch.Me: What did the watch look like?
Mom: It is gold with roman numeral numbers and a white face
Me: What do you remember about it that makes it so special?
Mom: I remember my father always wearing it, and when we held hands when I was a little girl, I could feel its cold metal on my skin
Me: Have you used it throughout the years?
Mom: Yes, I have worn it for every important test I have taken, and I have had it with me for every important event in my life
Me: How did you obtain the watch?
Mom: He gave it to me when I graduated college and I've kept it ever since
Me: Why is it so important to you?
Mom: When I look at it, it reminds me of my childhood and my relationship with my father, I was always "Daddy's little girl"
