54907 When E and Noodles go to court I think both should receive equal amount of punishment. If they go to court for a different reason than Noodles should be punished if Ona's father report that they were robbed to the police. For example, Noodle was the one that went into Ona's house and took everything that will get him some money and destroyed her house. Another example, is both kids are bad and they committed the same crime together. E needed the money to support his family. While Noodles didn't say anything.
5/7: Stealing? (21 new)

54907 If a man steals bread to feed his starving family, he should do it. For example, the man is trying to help and save his family from starvation. The man had the right to steal the food. Another example, is that the man isn't stealing the food just for fun. He is trying to survive his whole family. He doesn't want the family to die. Therefore, the man isn't wrong for stealing bread just to feed his starving family.

54907 I didn't miss Goodreads. Anyway, West Side Story was all about singing, dancing, and about two gangs fighting each other. There are parts in the story that can really happen. The gangs will fight until somebody gives up. For example, "The Outsiders" was about two gangs, Socs and Greasers. If a Soc ever find a greaser they'll go and start a fight with them. Remember when Johnny killed Bob because Bob was trying to kill Ponyboy. The Socs got really mad at them which caused the rumble. In West Side Story, the rumble started because the Puerto Ricans were trying to take over the Jets territory. Another example, is that people who are different from others doesn't receive the same respect as them. Before, black people would be treated differently because of there color skin. The sharks who were Puerto Rican were treated differently by the Sharks who were white.

54907 I'm the second person doing my H.W on Goodreads. My character Dallas Winston sadly died. Oh well. Does this mean I don't have to do anymore work in ELA? Did my character fight for himself because of loyalty to the gang? Or is it because he is a conformist? Dally was a tough mean and rough person in the gang. His first time in jail was when he was eleven years old. I believe Dallas fights for himself because he wants to show that he isn't afraid. For example, he looks for fights anywhere in town. He is showing the gang that he is tough and not to mess with him. He also doesn't show any fear. This shows that Dallas wants to get respect from the gang. Another example, is that Dally for the first time helps someone in the gang. When Johnny and Ponyboy ran away. They went to him and asked for help. He help them by giving some extra clothes, gun, extra cash, and giving them directions to an abandoned church. This shows that Dallas finally thinks about someone besides himself.

54907 I picked "Neighbors" for the Goodreads homework. Neighbors is related to "The outsiders" because each neighbor has a fence. The fence divides the yard equally. In The Outsiders the socs and the greasers are divided. The Socs lives on the west side and the greasers live on the east side. If the fence wasn't in one of there yards the two neighbors will have an argument about which side belongs to who. In the book Socs and greasers don't get along that is why there is a fence between them. If the Socs and Greasers were together a bunch of people will be in the hospital. Any the greasers will probably have little land.

54907 Great I'm the ninth person writing a post today. I agree with Cherry because nothing is perfect in life. Theres poverty, violence, abuse, and much more. If life was so perfect there probably wouldn't be jail, criminals, and everybody will have a perfect life. Everybody has something in their lives that they don't like, but they have to face their fears. Cherry did have the right to say this. The socs aren't perfect. Ponyboy may not believe this because he is a greaser. His whole life are filled with problems. He believes that only the greasers have the toughest life in the whole entire world.
2/15: Cicero (24 new)
Feb 15, 2012 04:05PM

54907 Cicero once said, "We were born to unite with our fellow men, and to join in community with the human race." I agree with Cicero because if we join a community america and other countries will fall apart. If nobody works together many people would have been killed during a war. Everybody needs to work as a team. If a person can't work with another person they will probably die or get someone killed during a war.

A real situation in a community would be helping everybody who have lost friends, families, or neighbors during the 9/11 attacks. Around 3,000 people were killed. Many volunteer to go to NYC and clean up the mess searching for survivors, gathering dead bodies to identify them and report it to there families. Since that day more people are dying in Afghanistan fighting for their country.

12/20: Article (26 new)

54907 I have just finished reading an article about a seventeen year old sentence to prison for 21 years in prison. Brandon Mclinerney will spend the next 21 years in prison for killing a gay student. The purpose of this article was to inform the reader, on what happen to the victim, what will happen to the suspect what happened on trial, and how long will the suspect stay in jail. The audience that it was addressing to was the victims relatives, and others who were following the story. the author did provide fair information in the article, it explained everything that had happened during the crime scene and what had happened in trail. I did bring bias to the reading because many people committed suicide or killed because they were gay and weren't treated very well. This isn't the first time a gay student had died. Something should be done.

54907 The article "Sorry I'm Not a Stereotype" applies to A.T.D. For example, some people tells a lot of stereotypes. Arnold was being insulted by Rodger for telling him a stereotype. Arnold didn't like what Rodger said, so Arnold punched him in the face. Another example, is that nobody are treating Indians equally. Arnold is different from everybody outside the reservation. The narrator in "Sorry for not being a stereotype" is being treated differently outside of the reservation.

Arnold and the author life are different in many ways. Arnold wants to learn more. He made a difference in the reservation. He walked out and followed his dream. He never gave up. While the author doesn't stand up for herself in the city. She didn't stand up for herself when the lady in the grocery store said "Why don't you people just go back to your own country." The author isn't brave enough to do what Arnold did.

54907 I believe that when Arnold said to Rowdy that if he stayed here he will die, Arnold meant that he would become like everybody in the reservation. Everybody in the reservation gave up on everything. They gave up on their, dreams, future, and much more. But Arnold, wants to make a difference. He doesn't want Rowdy to end up like his parents. This is what I believe when Arnold told Rowdy that he is going to die.

I believe Rowdy doesn't want to go with him because of the town. The town is filled with other people that Rowdy is not used to. He doesn't want to go to school with other cultures. He wants to go to school only with his culture. He doesn't want to change his life.

54907 I think when Mr. P said "Kill the Indian to save the child" because he wants the children to forget their culture and become one of them. He wanted the children to become like everybody else in the country. This reminds me when back in the 1800's the whites will sent the natives children to boarding school and teach them how to become more like them. They'll cut their long hair, give them shoes to put on, and taught them how to speak English. This is what I believed what Mr. P was trying to say to Arnold.

I think what Arnold was trying to say about her sister being "trapped", was that she rather write her stories because she wished that her stories came to life. She didn't liked the real world, she wants to become one of the characters in her story. A total different world, where she didn't live in the reservation, and get the same respect as other people outside the reservation. She probably, always stayed in the basement because she didn't want to look outside and see her real life. This is what I believed when Arnold said that her sister was "trapped"
