Lisa’s comments from the W. Somerset Maugham Reader's Group group.

Somerset Maugham wrote short stories, novels, travel observations, and plays. I feel he is in his best element with short stories. I have been rereading his plays, having found volumes 1 and 2 in a bookstores in England. Formerly, I had found them thru Kindle. Anyway, I am struck by many things in the plays, particularly the continuing theme of the fallen woman. Comments?

My favorite ss is "The Letter." I will reread "The Alien Corn" tonight.

I prefer his short stories.
