One of my favourite childhood books is 'The Digging-est Dog' by Al Perkins. I still have it on my shelf, with my mom's handwriting inside the cover. I read it every year to students during Read-In week and love to watch their faces as they are transfixed to the illustrations and events of the story.

Island of the Blue Dolphins was my favourite novel growing up. I read it in one sitting and I was one of those kids who avoided reading. Such a great book!
