58421 2026 Yearly Theme Nominations!

Hello Fellow Readers!

Preparations for 2026 are underway and it is time for you, our members, to help us choose 2026’s yearly theme! Post your ideas in this thread. It will remain open until October 15th. The mods will then create a poll and send an extra message on October 16th so that each group member may vote for their favorite theme!

Rules
- You may either suggest one theme OR second one theme!
- Themes must be nominated AND seconded by a different member in order to get into the poll.
- Moderators reserve the right to modify, refine, or adjust themes as necessary. This isn't to restrict your creativity, just to make it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone!
- To keep the poll manageable, we may limit the total number of ideas.

Good yearly themes are broad enough to be able to create quarterly themes throughout the year. For example, given the nominations of “roses" and "flowers," we would choose the broader term "flowers" because it includes "roses.” See the past themes below for an inspiration of what we're looking for. Themes used in the past are not eligible to be used again.

When submitting your nomination, feel free to share how it could be applied to quarterly themes.

Previous Themes
2017 - Around the World
2018 - Reading Through Time
2019 - Books to Stage & Screen
2020 - Myths, Legends & Fairy Tales
2021 - A Better World
2022 - Mysteries of the World
2023 - To Boldly Go
2024 - Seasons
2025 - Emotional Rollercoaster

58421 My reading didn't quite go as planned, this weekend. I'll add my own little bit of progress tomorrow.

I feel like this has been a successful readathon and I hope you all will join us again for the first team readathon of 2026!

The individual readathons are more laid back than team readathons.
You may repeat prompts or pick and choose prompts. Even the discussion questions are optional.

You're welcome. If I'm being honest, I had to look around to find it, even though I knew it was there somewhere. 😆
58421 JennH wrote: "So you mention that the individual readathons are not as strict.... Graphic novels are generally excluded from the team readathons, but can they be read for this one?"

Yes, you may include graphic novels for individual readathons.

🍁 Any book formats qualify (graphic novel, large print, audio, etc.)

Bonfire Night sounds fun! I hope you enjoy it, if you're planning to go!

We have a fire pit out back. Fireworks are not allowed in November, around here. They're only allowed for a week or so when Independence Day is near.
58421 Start time is near. This readathon starts at MIDNIGHT tonight, in your own timezone. Are you ready?
58421 Are you folks ready? This readathon begins at MIDNIGHT tonight, in your own timezone.
58421 My answers to the discussion question from message 3.
1.) How are your reading challenges going so far? Are there books you are excited about for this readathon? Which one(s)?
I'm on track to reach and exceed my 2025 reading goal. My 2025 goal is lower than those from recent years. A lot has been going on in life. I'm planning to borrow the audio book Murder on The Girls' Night Out, for the readathon. Maybe I can manage more.

2.) Are there annual events in your area that you like to attend for the fall season? What are they?
There are many of events going on nearby. It's unlikely I'll go to any.

3.) What is your favorite spooky book from childhood? Are there any favorites from adulthood?
I remember "Gus Was A Friendly Ghost" from many years ago.
I really liked "Lock Every Door." I read it in 2024.

I have one more comment. I think answering these questions may mean I'm talking to myself, since I am the person who posted them. LOL!

-------------------------------

My totals for the entire readathon:

Book: "Game On," by Janet Evanovich .....50 pages
Audio book: "Murder On The Girl's Night Out," by Anne George.....58 minutes
58421 GailW wrote: "Theresa wrote: "...This thread has typically been used for questions about the readathon..."

Theresa, this is my first time doing a readathon. I will likely have a book already begun that won't be..."

The individual readathons are not as "strict," so to speak. You can finish the book during this readathon.

A note for future team Readathons, you would need at least 100 pages left to count them.
58421 the Readathon begins on September 26.
