Well, I don't have a Kindle, although I've got a Fire Tablet. In any case, I'll answer to say why I wouldn't bother to load an audiobook onto a Kindle (or buy one, so I could). First, I don't switch between text and audio. With any book, it's one or the other. So the ability to WhisperSync on the same device as I switched media would be useless to me. And then the Kindle, whether PW or other, strikes me as an inconvenient player to listen to an audiobook. I want something that will fit into a pocket and something that will stand a jostling. Kindles are too big and fragile to be ideal audiobook players.
Really the only argument I could make in favor would be that it would be one fewer device I'd have to take along with me while out and about and that would be worth something, but not enough to justify having a Kindle for me.
The Whispersync price hikes that affect me are on the public domain classics; books that were either free or sold for a trivial sum for Kindle and had a Whispersync price of $1.99 or $2.99 at Audible. Obviously, there is no author involvement here.I deeply regret not having loaded up my wishlist titles in time; that said, I'm only rarely if ever going to pay $7.49 for them. Either I can get them through OverDrive or I'll listen to something else. I have no idea of what the price elasticity on these books are, but I suspect the classics will languish at least for the time being.
I would have lived with a price jump (and indeed, probably stocked up), but more than doubling the price is a no-go.

I'd like to say that I'm very glad indeed that I bought all the Aubrey/Maturin audiobooks from Downpour! I ration myself on them, so I still have much listening pleasure ahead of me.I do have a question. I alternate fiction and non-fiction (usually history) listens. One of my first audiobooks was Catastrophe 1914 which was excellent, but i don't think I've heard any other histories read by you. Do you have any titles you could recommend or that are particularly close to your heart?
