5970 After a bit of diliberation I've decided that a good novel to begin this little book club is "Someplace to be Flying" by Charels de Lint. We'll begin the discussion on January 26th. If you can't find this book, please let me know. In the future, if you want to recomend a novel, please feel free to do so.

5970 Has anyone else ever read a book and thought: "This would make an awesome movie!" I find it happens a lot when I'm reading magical realism. There have been several novels that I'd love to see on the big screen- and don't say it can't happen, because I longed for a live action Lord of the Rings trilogy for years before it occurred. :) One book that I think would make an awesome movie is Someplace to be Flying by Charles de Lint. It's a good story, mixing reality with fantasy, and adventure with mystery and romance. The characters are fantastic, and would be wonderful to see brought to life. (Though, of course, movies never make them quite as you imagine them.) I would love to see Jack Daw, Cody and the Crow Girls in a film. It would be fantastic! (Of course, I'd like to see another de Lint book made into a movie so that I can see Jilly and Joe Crazy Dog, too.) I don't want to give too much away in case someone wants to read it, but if anyone else has read it or has read one of the reviews, you might know what I mean. (Of course, you could also disagree completely.)

Does anyone else have any "Wish They's Make a Movie" books?

5970 Welcome to Ex Libris! I apologize for not beginning a topic sooner, but honestly I've been very busy.

Anyway, one of my favorite conversation starters for those Awkward-Quiet-Moment-of-Doom introductions is: "Have you read any good books lately?" (Generally, if the person responds that they don't read, I know we're not going to get along and cease bothering to communicate.) It seems like as good a place as any to begin a discussion...

The latest Magical Realism/ Urban Fantasy novel I've read is Charles de Lint's "Trader." I absolutely love de Lint's work. He's my favorite M.R.U.F. author, as well as one of my favorites in general.

What about everyone else?
