I don't think I would have heard of her if not for the movie, "An Angel At My Table." The poignant scene where she stands in her dead father's boots made me want to read anything she wrote.

Janet Frame never tried to change or protect herself in her writing.

Hello, I'm Joanne, and I'd never heard of Janet Frame until I saw the movie about her. The scene where the sisters were in bed, with their worn shoes on the floor, (The Dancing Princesses) was one of the most touching I've seen. I read her books, and can't say I always understood them. I should read them again.
