61162 Thanks so much for a really interesting response!!

I definitely think that you succeeded with the comedy vs situation/aftermath. I loved the lighthearted moments and easy interplay between your characters but there always felt like there was something serious and important going on in the background and with the development of Hans character (IMO something that RLS does very well too).

The potential for the second novel is really exciting since now you've established the character and situation I'm feeling like there's so much that could happen.

I can't wait until May - I hope you get the continuing success with the series that you deserve!

61162 A bit of a cliched question but I'm curious to know what your main influences were for The Sauder Diaries?

Was there anything spefically you were trying to emulate ... or were you specifically trying to take elements from different types of fiction and blend them together. I couldn't put my finger on what the book reminded me of specifically though in part it felt like Hans Sauder could have been a protagonist of a Walter Scott or maybe a Robert Louis Stevenson novel, but your writing has a lightness of touch that is possibly less Victorian and a little more modern.

Anyway, fantastic first novel, I loved it! I honestly can't wait to read the sequel now..!!
