Zak’s comments from the What's the Worst Book You've Ever Read? group.

The Dune series is some of my all time favorite reading. Dry, hard core sci-fi, obsessed with the detail of it's concepts.

The author's son began writing prequels based on his dad's notes.

Book 1 was surprisingly good. Nothing compared to the originals, but not an insult, but fun.

Book 2 slipped a bit.

Book 3 was complete crap fan fic, all characters becoming single trait caricatures, events expanding way past their continuity limits, and the basic writing just crap.

Why I kept reading I don't know, I guess I just really enjoyed the first one. Since then I've been very wary of published fan fic.
