Thank you for the recommendation. I will take a look at that read as well.
I agree with you on the indie front. Sometimes I find myself disappointed in mainstream authors and I pay twice as much for their books. For me, even if the editing isn't so hot (I am terrible with editing so I don't knock those who haven't done it well.) I can easily see past that if the story is well written and engaging.

Matthew and Karen,
I will do my best to get you in there! I'm reading while trying to finish my new novella and the sequel to my "vampire"-crime novel The Scene. That being said, if I have to extend my quest into 2013 then so be it. :)
Thanks to you for including me in the progression of your work. Also, I will be adding my already read books to the bookshelf of this discussion. I will only be adding books I can honestly give at least 3 stars to, for others to choose from and enjoy. I hope you find something that perks your ears.
Thanks!

Rebecca wrote: "Yeah, Melissa beat me to it. What do you like to read, R.m.?
I, too, am reading only indies."
I prefer thrillers and mystery, with a splash of occult and paranormal. But I have been known to read the occasional drama or comedy if it is highly recommended.
Good to see others with the same mindset! Read on buddies!
Please feel free to discuss your current reads, like and dislikes in the indie world, and so on.
Cheers
Everyone has something to offer, just as any other horribly dysfunctional family. Takes a village. Find your niche, embrace it. Find others, embrace them. I'm doing it, you should too.
Making my rounds through the Indie community this year.I have sworn my alliance to Indie authors for 2012. I, R.M. Gilmore will read, review, and support only Indie authors and their works.
I have chosen to read at least 15 Indie books this year. This is not a limitation or maximum number, only a guideline to keep me on track.
I will leave an honest review as an author. However, if I find that I cannot finish the book OR I feel I cannot give an honest 3 stars or more to a book I will NOT review it. I firmly believe in the old saying, "If you can't saying anything nice, don't say anything at all". I have two reasons for this 1) The last thing a new "unknown" author needs is a "bad" review. 2) Do unto others. If I wrote a horrible story I would appreciate someone tell me personally or privately and not scream it from the rooftop. A 1 or 2 star review is embarrassing and I refuse to do that to another human being.
That being said, if I find a plot discrepancy, numerous errors (we are all human and these things happen. I am the worst about editing so I know how that can go.), or simply HATE it for whatever reason I may leave a personal message as to why I won't be leaving a review. Who knows, an author may decide to make some changes and the second edition is unbelievably amazing.
My goal is to support others like me. I ask that these "others" choose to do the same. If we all band together, we can become more than just "Indies" or "Self-published", which lets face it doesn't come with the best stigma. I only hope that one day someone will do the same for me.
Indies, I got your back.
Cheers,
R.M.
This all makes PERFECT sense, I have been struggling with her "voice" from the beginning. Because she is from such a small backwoods town her speech pattern and vocabulary are skewed. Because of this I don't want to give her more than she "knows" or would naturally "say".It is set in present time and yes leather sheaths are typical and what is referred to here.
Once she is complete, beginning to end, I will pull it all together and give her the last breath of "life" she needs.
Thanks for the input Richard. I know how you roll already (exsanguinated? :p)
Allison wrote: "I have my sequal in the works since last October probably but I've hit a major block. Later on today maybe I'll post an exerpt for feedback. I like your discussions."Do it! I am working on Demon Love Story now. I read in spurts lol. I'll go days and only read a chapter or two then knock out five in a night.
I'm working as fast as I can. But I am easily distracted. Like now, I was working, then i stopped to type this. See? My laptop hasn't left my side for days now. Even wrote while riding passenger on a three hour drive out of town this weekend. Lots of components down, needs to get flushed out and put together. If only I could hook my computer to my brain and have my thoughts flow onto the screen just like they do in my head. I'd likely be done with it by now. Or, I'd have a nicely written paragraph followed by my thoughts on dinner, loud neighbor children, and otherwise non-related verbiage.
Ok, after completely stalking your pages, I have decided to get myself a wordpress blog. But not tonight, tomorrow. It is St. Patty's day and I am Irish. There is no way I can see straight enough to set up a new blog.Tomorrow it is! Hazah!
Hey! Me too!http://RMGilmoreAuthor.blogspot.com
Yes, I have blogspot. No, I am not overly happy with it. I have no time to change over to something else. :)
The second in the Dylan Hart series should be released before the end of 2012, that is if we are all still alive ;). Hard at work on "Endless Night" (coming fall/winter 2012) and a different series that is set to debut spring of this year.
I will keep you posted here when you can find them!
Also, you can check out the topic thread for "Upcoming Works" and find excerpts and updates for all I have going on.
Thanks
Becoming - Lynnie Russell Novella (Random Excerpt) "I heard the familiar sound of a sharp knife being pulled from it's sheath. My daddy is a hunter and I live with my brother who thinks guns and knives are the best thing since titties, I know a knife when I hear one. I screamed again and scrambled away from the fire pit. I tried to get to my feet when the hand snatched me up again, this time throwing me hard to the ground. My head hit a river rock that circled the pit. I was dazed by the thud to the head. My eyes were blurry and watery but I tried to look around anyway."
Coming this spring!

Hey, we all gotta have something, right? If a publisher were to come to me tomorrow and offer me a book deal I'm not sure I would take it.
Granted, I am selling maybe one book a day and would likely sell more if I was traditionally published. I don't like following rules or being under someones thumb, thus, I am indie. For now anyway.
If, by some miracle, I publish the second and even third in this series and they do well then maybe I'll have more pull with a publishing company. Until then, I will continue to make squat on my hard work and know, with all it's flaws, it's all mine. No one told me to change anything, no one forced my hand, the story remains my brainchild and that's just the way I like it.

I dont have many followers but I do get some traffic coming through. Use tags, pictures, and back links to bump the blog to the top of search engines. But mostly I just share my blog link on Facebook, Twitter, and any where else I c an
I didn't want to give up ANYTHING! I suppose in a certain way this may have impacted my career negatively at first, seeing as though I am responsible for marketing, editing, promoting, and publishing. But in the long run I feel as though it will all come together. I will find my niche and my audience will find me.
As long as I can keep my head from spinning off my shoulders I'll be fine.
Are you an indie author? Spill it!
Have questions about how to go indie, what it takes, and things to avoid? Ask away!
Here is where you can snag tidbits of upcoming works, share ideas, and leave feedback BEFORE it's published! Thanks for stopping by!
From the top,All will be answered in the following TWO books! Vamps fact or fiction, Reggie and her parts, Mike's mistakes, Dylan's thick candy shell, and more with the Fresno crew are coming up in book 2 "Endless Night" and book 3 "Sacrifice". As for our Hungarian baddie...all in good time my pretty all in good time.
The Endless Night Ball is an annual event held either in New Orleans or New York, alternating years. It is an over the top vampire convention, of sorts. The entire event lasts for three days and three nights and is chock full of music, vendors, performers, and various "formal" events each day. This year, 2012, the ball will take place in New Orleans. That is where our story takes us in "Endless Night".
Honestly, I was sick of the direction vampires were going. Sparkling, falling love and getting married, having babies, and such. Then to top it off the "following" that came along with the new "emo vamps" created an entirely new generation of over-the-top cult followers. So I took it and ran with it. Throwing in a bit of reality, a dash of humor, and a butt load of alcohol. Oh, and vampires, can't forget about vampires. Sealed the deal with Dylan Hart, our salty journalist and created the first of the Odyssey of The Occult series, "The Scene".
Rich, I did notice the "RM" the other day and forgot to mention it. Thanks for stopping by!Allison, rules are made to be broken. :)
Thanks you guys for coming by.
I created this Q&A late last night and couldn't force my mind to think of other topics. If you guys have any suggestions have it!
Cheers
