67052 Hi Brenda! It's great to hear from someone in NZ. How nice you got to go to England. C19 is great for feeling 'normal' about your obsession with N&S or Richard Armitage!
I think the end of the adaptation IS the most romantic scene on film I've ever seen.
Have you converted anyone to the N&S love? ;)

I'm so glad the book is meeting that romance 'need' and that you think I captured the essence of John Thornton. I'm a great admirer of both the book and the adaptation and I like to think I understand Gaskell's characters pretty well.
I post my stories on an Internet forum called 'C19' that was begun for those that fell in love with the BBC's adaptation of N&S. I'm an active member and moderator at C19. My latest story, which I hope to publish when it's finished, is entitled 'In Consequence' and makes a different twist in Gaskell's plot at a crucial event.

Oh, what marvelous discussions...Why isn't N&S known as a classic alongside P&P and Jane Eyre, which ending do you prefer: the book or adaptation...!

I would love to jump in, but I fear that trying to write in French would be disastrous! All those accent marks....

Thanks for recommending my book to others. :)
Can you give me a link? I can read French fairly well.

I have written a review for A Heart for Milton that expresses my emotions.

Aww, I'll take a cyber hug any time! I'm so glad it touched you. I didn't mean to make anyone cry, but I'm happy to know the characters came alive to you.

I adore John and Margaret, too. They are real to me. Thanks so much for your sweet words and your review. Hopefully, I gave you hours of pleasurable reading. :)

I'm working on my next N&S novel...

They do. They are both unique in offering what the other 'lacks'. With both, we have the visuals, words, atmosphere and emotional energy to create powerful images in the mind.
I feel like everyone should know about 'North and South.'

No, please. Goodreads suggested that there be a closing date, but I am always available to chat about N&S!

Thanks for adding to the discussion! I love both the book and the adaptation. There are brilliant elements in both and each enriches the soul.

Thanks so much for telling me. Yes, the cover alone is wonderfully romantic. I'm glad my story meets a need for those who wished to see more romance between John and Margaret. It was my intention to share my vision of their happiness. I'm pleased it's given you so much enjoyment. :)

67052 How exciting! Don't you love the cover? I hope you love the story. :)

67052 I'm currently wrapping up a months-long internet group read of 'North and South.' Care to join in on the discussion at C19 concerning the last two chapters of the book?

Note: C19 is a friendly internet forum for lovers of N&S, Richard Armitage, period drama, and literature.

67052 Thornton was a gentleman in the truer sense of the word. I loved his sterling, selfless, devoted nature. I believe that Margaret and Thornton were drawn to each other's goodness and strength.
Intense drama? Yes. This story was no light and fluffy romance, that's for sure. Gaskell showed us the hardest years of Margaret's life. But it all ends so beautifully.

67052 Melting has been known to happen. ;) I hope you enjoy it.

67052 The paperback is available at Amazon France and AmazonUK. It is also available at The Book Depository, which offers free shipping worldwide.
I make no apologies. My book is terribly romantic. It should appeal to all hopeless romantics!:)

67052 There are decent men out there, but I think there can only be one John Thornton! I've been caught up in the emotions and story of N&S for over two years now. That's one of the reasons I I began to write - I was daydreaming too many scenes.
I think part of the appeal of N&S is that Thornton's feelings are so strong and that they are vividly described by Gaskell. It's a painful love story almost until the very end. The year of seperation is especially torturous for both of them. The reader is pulled into their loneliness and longing.

67052 That's a great story, Lyne! Love it. If I see the adaptation first, it whets my appetite to read the book. I usually can't wait to see how it compares to the original text.

67052 Thankfully, the 'other' N&S was televised long ago and many aren't remembering it any more. I'm glad you are working to 'evangelize' the un-enlightened!

67052 I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I want to shout out to the world about this great author/story. But at other times, I feel privileged to be one of the select few who have found and adore North and South. It definitely feels like a secret club. :)

67052 Hi Nathalie! I also discovered N&S by watching the BBC's adaptation. I fell in love with John Thornton and all the great characters. I love the book now, I think, even more than the miniseries. There are so many wonderful elements in Gaskell's story!
