"Man, I wish I was an animagus." I sighed, tapping my fork on my plate absently, "Imagine that - being able to transform into an animal and just have access to a whole new skill set."
Orion quirked an eyebrow at me, "Are you talking about World of Warcraft right now?"
"Shhh," I huffed, "Don't pretend you don't think it's cool."

"Hold on," Albus said quietly, "Speaking of animagi... Last time the heir controlled the basilisk. But what if, this time-"
"The heir is the basilisk." James finished his brother's sentence, lifting his head.

My stomach dropped, and I saw an image of Silvia back in the infirmary. I reached up to rub my eyes, dispelling the image, "I think I speak for us all when I say I really damn hope that's not the case."

67080 For action and adventure, I recommend the usual Naruto, One Piece, D. Gray Man, as well as the shorter Shakugan no Shana and Black Cat. +Anima is also quite a fun read.

For romance and comedy, I recommend Skip Beat!, Ouran High School Host Club and Watashi ni xx Shinasai.

There are a few more, but no others come to mind right now :)

Yes I do. :) They make us do Advanced english or higher - standard isn't offered at all.

67080 Booknut, thank you so much for all the advice! In my school we have to do Extension 1 in Year 11 if we want to do Extension 2 in Year 12. Also, I think I have a long way to go before my writing can be considered magical but thank you <3

I took another look at the course outline and I thought it sounded pretty interesting. A while ago my teacher mentioned her Extension 1 class was studying texts like Hamlet and Jane Austen's Emma but I'll ask her again.

Visual arts, society and culture (another subject I was considering) and Extension 2 all have major projects and work so it might be a heavy workload but my teachers said that as long as I manage and use my time wisely I'll be okay.

Currently I think I'll try for Extension 1, then if I can cope with that throughout year 11, I'll do Extension 2 in year 12. :) I'll still ask around a little more before I make my final decision - I have a month or so to think about it. But again, thank you so much for all your help. :D

67080 A couple of years ago I read Shadow of the Minotaur and I thought it was great! But, like I said, it was a few years ago so everything is pretty much a blur and I'm not sure if it's still as great as I thought it was back then. I actually forgot all about it until I saw this topic, and I didn't even know it was part of a trilogy until just now.

I'll have to re-read it but it left me with that great 'woah' feeling so I think it's worth looking into.

67080 So we're starting to think of our subject selections for our HSC years coming up and the teachers have given us all their talks (and bribes!), but I'm still a little unsure about my subjects.

My mum insists I do some kind of maths, so that's already decided, and some of my other subjects are pretty much decided too, like biology and visual arts. But I'm a bit unsure about which English subject I should do - Advanced (Standard isn't offered at my school), Extension 1 or Extension 2. And if I remember correctly, you said you did up to Extension 2. Do you have any tips or advice on this?
67080 April's competition is now closed. The winner for this round is Gavin, and the runner up is νєяαℓι∂αιиє! Your entries were great! Please PM your email addresses to me and I'll send your prizes across :)

67080 I actually haven't tried pepper on cucumbers.. I'll try it soon :D
May 20, 2014 01:58AM

67080 It's a bit weird, but I like to eat crunchy things while I do basically anything. Cucumbers - preferably with salt -, carrots, chips, apples, toast and more. As long as it's crunchy, it's a good book companion. :)
67080 Entries are now closed for April, thank you to everyone who entered.

Results for March's poll is in and the winner is... Olivia! The runner-up for this round is Melissa!
Congratulations ladies, your prizes will be sent across shortly.

Here is a link to the April 2014 Five Sentence Fiction Poll.

MAY 2014's Prompt is:

FANTASY

As usual, entries close at the end of this month!

67080 Occasionally the guys at my school do something really sweet - give a girl his jumper when she's cold, randomly sit next to her when she's feeling tired or uncomfortable.. - then they do another thing which just ruins it.

I can tell they're being genuine when they're kind, but when they switch their personality so randomly it's a bit like 'where did that sweet guy go?'.

It seems that guys - at least the ones at my school - are nice only when they aren't with their friends. Such a shame...
Apr 28, 2014 03:26AM

67080 Thanks guys. It's compulsory at my school so everyone's scrambling to find a good place to go. I'm looking forward to it :D

67080 I like the book recommendation function on Goodreads because it's like a gentle sugestion. A 'Hey I enjoyed this and I think you will too but no pressure if you don't read it straight away.'
I just add it to my to-read list and relax, knowing I'll get to it someday.
