Hi Judy, welcome to the group. You sound like a vey busy person, as i assume it must be constant when caring for animals. I am fascinated by goats. The leaping about makes them seem so cheerful, though i have no idea if they leap from happiness or from excessive energy. 🐐

I will write more later on as i have to go for now.
Please add your books to our bookshelves.

The piece i am mending IS a sweatshirt elbow. My favorite house sweatshirt-- meaning old, broken-in, only to be worn in the house.

And it has a Beagle on the front. I bought it when my Beagle was here. Frekley. A wonderful dog who walked into my workplace one day. He was older when he arrived and stayed with me 5 or 6 years.🐕

69917 I've looked at 3 books and decided I'm probably going to have to patch. I'm looking for an old t-shirt to cut up.
I know i had one in mind to go to textile recycling but where did i put it.

Good Luck!"

Hi ! Thanks for responding. I was beginning to think everyone was gone since we don't have Jim to keep things going. He was so good at that.

69917 Does anyone have a favorite book with mending instructions?
I'm looking for a way to repair the elbow of a favorite sweatshirt. I wear it a lot because it reminds me of my dog. Long gone, my beagle Frekley.

It's only worn around the house so a perfect mend isn't required. No patch.
It's a hole over the elbow.

Please recommend a book.

69917 I will miss Jim and his contributions on many subjects. I always appreciated that he didn't think my questions were stupid and was willing to figure things out.
He kept the group going.

I'm just seeing this now. Notifications were working on and off but i didn't realize group discussions were affected at the time you posted this. I don’t know where they stand now but i do know i never never get notifications on book review discussions.

This program looks interesting. I'll see if the library has dvds.

On a craftsman aside, have you read One Second
After
One Second After (After, #1) by William R. Forstchen ?
It's very interesting and frightening because it is entirely possible. One point i founf fascinating concerned the people and craftsmen that are revealed to be so important when modern technology goes down due to an EMP. An EMP from any cause, be it a nuclear attack or from the sun, would reveal the same consequences. The old ways would become essential. People, such as myself, wouldn't be of much use, not having knowledge of USEFUL old ways.
It's interesting to discuss.
I think there are 4 books in the series now. I've got the 3rd comingvat the library. The 1st was pretty brutal when you realize it's all spelled out there in its complete possibility and you start to wonder if anything is being done to harden off the electric grid, etc.

I thought you'd find it interesting.
It's amazing the amount of money they charge for these things that are supposed to last longer. Then they're wonky. I noticed some go dim. Only because where i noticed is the kitchen when I'm cooking.

I'm not getting notifications and found this by scrolling the discussion dates. I guess i need to do that more often.
Anyway, thank you for this info. I don’t use a password manager, but i let my son know as he may.
Hacking. Cyberattacks. It's all very upsetting.
I'm still waiting to hear if the latest at the FAA was an internal mess or if it came from a Cyberattack.

This is a fascinating series. I've seen a few episodes on pbs and some on Create tv channel.
Now I've found the library has the dvds so I've been borrowing episodes to watch in my kitchen as i do things in there.
Even subjects i thought wouldn't be interesting to me I've found enthralling.

P.s. I've discovered that notifications for new comments here are hit or miss. Mostly miss.

I figure I'm going to be coming back to the book other times so i post it as read and shelve it. I get books from the library too and do the same. That way i have a record of it and can reorder when needed.
I usually go through the book enough to figure out if it's going to be helpful to me and rate it accordingly.

I was just commenting on the book I'm reading, i can't recommend it because I've just begun. I thought the subject of being a Luddite in these times is interesting.
I told my son about Humble Pi just the other day. He is very smart, but has mental health issues so life is a crap shoot. He still breaks my heart from thousands of miles away.
...which is just another reason i read a lot of fluff. It's distracting.

We may get rain on Tuesday i heard. I'm going to look for a car, maybe a subaru impresa. seems like it would be fine. I can't justify the money for anything larger.

That's helpful, thanks. I just have to remember lower is better and/or soft white.
I put the stupid bluish ones in the donation box. Maybe someone else won't color care.

69917 I'm sorry to hear that you and your wife are having such a hard time.
More than a hard time by the sounds of it.
It's good you have family to help. Do you get to ride at all? Sorry if that's a sensitive question.

I'm on the bed with my cat and 2 fans providing a breeze, watching old NCIS episodes, reading The Great Man Theory...which you may, or may not like...depending upon your political views. I'm enjoying it so far.

No rain here for a long long time. Starting to hear dry well reports.

Stay safe !

69917 Sorry i haven't been communicating. Life just seems so much harder these days.
I think this is the last summer I'm going to be able to do without air conditioning. I end up feeling too tired from the heat and don't get anything accomplished.
Age has changed the way the heat affects me.
I definitely know it's changed because i delivered mail for years in a vehicle that would be 100+ inside it and i just misted myself with a spray bottle and carried on.
Anyway, if anyone is reading this, i hope things are ok for you.

69917 I'm so frustrated with this lightbulb situation. I bought ones that said "daylight" on the box and they turned out to be bluish light, like florescent. I put one in the cellar ceiling fixture, sat on the stairs and decided to leave immediately.

Turns out the correct color is "soft white". And i bet it varies from brand to brand.
It's pretty bad when trying to figure out lightbulbs exhausts me.
Is there a rhyme or reason to this?

I think the heat is making me stupid (and weak) (not even kidding).
