A newcomer to the group and a tad late to this particular party...so hello!

This made me think of the Aeluons from Becky Chamber's Wayfarers series - an alien race that communicates via colored patches on their cheeks.

I'm only 20ish pages in and while the baby scenes (nursing and changing) did feel very out of place I gotta say: I get it. With a baby myself, you gotta do what you gotta do and those scenes definitely made me chuckle to myself.
