I am in awe Michael. I managed 120 in one year once but this year I am only at 37. I worry sometimes with my excessive reading whether I am simply "chewing and swallowing" books rather than "digesting" them properly. Do you ever have that worry? I have a FB friend who decided to review & blog every book he read so he was forced to take notes on each one. http://tonysreadinglist.blogspot.com.au/I don't even review my books, I think I still have the horror of being forced to write book reviews at school.
Can someone tell me please how to add a spoiler alert to discussions. A search in the Goodreads help section gave me nothing and a Google search just listed all discussions with spoiler alerts.

It's not often I read two books in a row that I just can't put down Life, on the Line: A Chef's Story of Chasing Greatness, Facing Death, and Redefining the Way We Eatone of the most compelling chef stories I've ever read, and Midnight's Children. It's the first time I've read any Salman Rushdie and I have to say I'm loving it.

Yes I did Maggie, for anyone else who wants to do it I would suggest previewing the questions and preparing your answers first.
In 2009 I managed 118 books, I'm hoping I might reach at least 100 this year, mainly because I have more than that waiting to be read. Michael is way ahead of me at the moment though, I better shift up a gear.

Congrats on the weight loss, that really is a lot!

Maggie I attempted to do the survey but it timed me out within 1 or 2 minutes, on the second page, I will try again tomorrow. I know how important it is because I have a personal horror story about psychiatric wards and my son's partner suffers from bi-polar disorder.

Ok, here goes, does anyone else wish there was a separate GR discussion page for "young adults"? Am I alone in wishing for a home page that isn't full of endless Hunger Games, Harry Potter & Anne of Green Gables discussions? I'm so glad I wasn't here for the Twilight phenomena, I probably would have lost my mind. That said, at least they are reading something. Yes I have read The Hunger Games trilogy, I'm not hating on the books, just the juvenile tone of the Home page.

For some reason I keep wondering what William Gibsonthought of the books, his character Cayce Pollard in Pattern Recognition is another favourite literary character of mine.

I didn't realise Steig Larsson was no longer with us, such a shame because I think everyone would have loved more of Lisbeth Salander.

The thread is about recently "purchased" books but if recently "obtained" books count I went a bit mad in the past few weeks and have lined up about 200 ebooks to read. I just finished The Millenium Trilogy, The Help, Hunger Games and Blood Meridian.
I've just read two great short reads by new Australian author Gary B. Lewis, Gallipoli Stranger and The Copper King Stranger(Kindle Editions). They are both available on Amazon for 99 cents. http://www.amazon.com/Gallipoli-Stran...

It is a good review Mish but unlike you I beg people to read this book. I loved it, even though it is very confronting sometimes. Eva Hornung did an absolutely brilliant job of taking the reader inside the life of a dog pack. In this book the animals are more humane than the humans. The only Australian book I have read this year is Mezza Italiana: An Enchanting Story about Love Family la Dolce Vita and Finding Your Place in the World
It was enjoyable but not outstanding.

I simply had to share a link to this site, they are donating 100% of proceeds from every sale on the first page to The Indigenous Literacy Foundation . On their other pages are bookmarks, journals and diaries made from old books, what a lovely idea!http://www.reboundbooks.net/collectio...
Welcome Julia, you inspired me to reserve Five Bells at the library and it seems very popular because there are 21 people ahead of me in the queue!
Thanks Carmel, I worked out that it's the only place you can list a book as unread, a bit annoying really because I like to have a list of books I'd like to read on hand when I go to the library so I've just had to leave them on there. I wanted to just use the To Read shelf for the pile of books on my bedside table, lol, but I can't.
Can anyone please tell me hoe I can remove a book from my to read shelf? I have tried the help section but couldn't find out how.
★ Jess wrote: "1001 books? Can anyone post a link to this list?"Jess here is a link to the Listopia list, which is actually unfinished as yet

Another link to a spreadsheet of the complete list

I think this list is a little different to the one I started from, there are plenty out there if you google it. I am lucky in that my local library has a shelf named 1001 Books you must read before you die! ( It appeared after I started using the list and I do wonder if it was because they were sick of having to get books out of stack for me!)
I only use the list as a reference point, I searched it out so I would know which books were worth reading, I was tired of being disappointed with the quality of writing of books I read.
