My review of the latest Robbie Arnott, Dusk
I didn't like it as much as Limberlost and it's very similar to the Rain Heron.
My review for Too Much Lip
I know it was written before The Yield but I read them the other way around and it's amazing how similar they are.
My review of Five Bells.A little late to the party on this one. And unfortunately, not better late than never.
After many nudges from well meaning friends I finally got around to reading John Birmingham's Leviathan: The Unauthorised Biography of Sydney
My review of his dark history of Sydney https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5690851164
I'm working my way through stories set in Sydney. My first Cliff Hardy novel The Dying Trade but if it's anything to go by I should be in for a few more. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5690912414
My review for Sydney by Delia FalconerOf all the biographies of Sydney I've read this one is best at describing what it's like to actually live in Sydney.

I read The Voice to Parliament Handbook: All the Detail You Need
Some great stuff in there but some disappointing things too.

Finished On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
Couldn't help myself with a pastiche review or rather I twisted all of the book's metaphors into a review. Not sure whether being able to use the metaphors like that makes them more profound or more hollow.

My review for Birnam Wood by my birth country's most feted living writer Eleanor Catton. I hate to say it but it's a dud. The premise has so much promise. The execution was abysmal.

I finally got around to reading Peter Sutton and Keryn Walshe's response to Dark Emu.
It's a pretty comprehensive takedown.

Finally got around to reading Love & Virtuehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5282725671
A strange experience reading about the Sydney University college system I went through.
My review for Robbie Arnott's Limberlost.

He might have cast away the magic-realism from his previous two novels but I think it's his best yet.
I recently finished Grimmish and it was a (heavy) breath of fresh air. Not for everyone but completely original.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5089776681
My review of Robbie Arnott's second book The Rain Heron.

Such a big improvement on his first.
My review for Danielle Clode's impeccably researched Voyages To The South Seas: In Search Of Terres Australes

I didn't go to school in Australia and so wasn't forced into reading David Malouf's Fly Away Peter
. Which is definitely for the best because it's such a moving and important work and I'm glad it was a book I could choose to read and not be forced to by a curriculum.

My review of Truth by Peter Temple. About as Aussie as they come. I can't help but feel all the hype for The Dry would have been better directed back to this book, which is superior in every way.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4784905018
My review of a fascinating find at a recent book fair The Sydney We Love. Might be hard to find a copy but highly recommended. Especially if you live in Sydney. It adds more layers of meaning to the city you live in.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4849887758
