Hi all, hope i'm doing this right, i am looking for people willing to review my book. I have promo copies i can send to anyone interested. My book is a collection of short stories covering topics such as growing up in a fundamentalist Christian cult, abuse, drug addiction and loneliness. If i had to describe the vibe i'd say imagine W. Somerset Maugham, Raymond Carver and Denis Johnson mashed together but very Australian.
If that sounds like something you might be interested in drop me a message with a postal address and i'll get a promo copy on its way.
Cheers
Hi Brenda, i can't find an ISBN on it. It is a 1961 edition so was that before ISBN got introduced? No bar code either.
Blurb reads: In this fascinating collection of short stories famous author of The Shiralee D'Arcy Niland writes vividly of New Zealand and its people.
That's it sorry. Published by Horwitz Publications (never heard of them before)
Hi all, i've come across something and i wanted to ask what to do about it. I was going through our great little secondhand bookshop here in Port Lincoln and i found a very old copy of a book called "Logan's Girl" by D'Arcy Niland (same author as "The Shiralee")
Of course i grabbed it and look forward to reading it but i've just noticed it isn't on Goodreads at all. It's a collection of short stories so i think probably most of the content would be in his collected stories but this particular book doesn't seem to exist on Goodreads or anywhere else i can find.
How would i go about putting it on Goodreads? Is that something only a GR Librarian can do? Also, is it super rare and valueable?
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi all, My second book "Remembering the Dead and Other Stories" has recently been published by Truth Serum Press.
I'm looking to give away a couple copies in exchange for reviews.
The stories are a mixed bag, there are stories about my time in the army, stories about my time in the NT and stories about my misspent youth in Perth and Fremantle.
My influences as a short story writer are people like W. Somerset Maugham, Henry Lawson, Raymond Carver and Charles Bukowski so if any of those people float your boat you might like my stuff.
If you're interested please message me.
Cheers

Hi all, putting this here because i'm not sure where else it would go. So i put up my second book on GR the other day. I thought i did everything right and it came up fine but now every time i go to have a look it comes up "an unexpected error occured"
No further explanation.
I have no idea why. Did i enter my book into the GR system wrong somehow?
Is it just a glitch that will resolve itself shortly?

Yeah valid point that.
If people are struggling to find enough books per state it's worth looking at the lists people have made on listopia. There is at least one, sometimes several, list per state. Just type the state or territory into the "search lists" box and away you go.
I know the NT and WA lists are very complete and thorough, i assume the other state lists are as well.
So this is a little bit of a strange topic but i'm hoping your collective wisdom can help me. I'm very keen on short stories not only for my own enjoyment but being a short story writer myself i'm always looking to learn from the great and others.
So recently i read the Collected Stories of Tennessee Williams and loved it. Williams is of course much better known for his plays than his short stories but they were brilliant.
I am currently reading the Complete Stories of Truman Capote. Again someone who is better known for other things but writes great short stories.
So i was wondering....are there any other writers who are better known for other things, say novels or plays or whatever, but who wrote great short stories?
Hey, just me putting my two cents worth in again. I notice that the bulk of the books people are talking about in this challenge are novels.
Has anyone thought of reading short story collections?
There is a really good list "Short Story Collections by Australian Authors" that is worth looking at.
Just trying to be helpful again. "You Belong Here" by Laurie Steed is set in the suburbs of Perth during the 80's and 90's. Basically a Gen X family memoir. I loved it and i've chatted to the author online, he seems like a cool guy.
So if anyone's looking for another WA book....
Just a tip if people are having trouble finding an ACT book. "Me and Mr Booker" by Corey Taylor is set in the suburbs of Canberra. I could be wrong but i think it's the only Text Classics title that is set in the ACT.
Hope that is helpful to someone.

Social media is so overrated.
As for the bad review, that's life as an author i guess, got to take the rough with the smooth.
Not sure if this is the right place to be asking this question. Some arsehole gave me a one star review via a fake profile because i said something on facebook he didn't like.
What, if anything, can i do about it?
Are there rules about this sort of thing?
I hate being a whiner and a dobber but the point of Goodreads is for book discussions not petty bullshit like this.

Hi, I'm new to this so i'm not sure if i'm doing this right, admins can tell me if i'm doing it wrong i suppose. I want to give away a couple paperback copies of my book The Last Free Man and Other Stories in exchange for reviews.
My book is a collection of short stories loosely based on my experiences living and working at remote roadhouses on the Nullarbor and in the NT. If you've ever read the short stories of W. Somerset Maugham and Henry Lawson that's the kind of vibe i've aimed for.
My book was shortlisted for the 2020 Chief Minister's NT Book Awards.
So if you're interested please message me.
Hi, I'd like to be added to the list. I published my first book "The Last Free Man and Other Stories" with Truth Serum Press in 2019. It was shortlisted for the 2020 Chief Minister's NT Book Awards. Hoping to have another book out later this year.
