When's the last time you flipped a rock over and saw bugs?
Remember the little red ones that used to crawl over everything? When's the last time your car
didn't feel boiling hot after 10 minutes in the parking lot? Before you trusted the seasons to arrive on time for record breaking temperatures? This summer invaded the news. Before June sidewalks turned into stove tops in the roads, but the forest were clustered with invasives. When's the last time you saw fireflies in crowds instead of singular fireflies at a time? And when's the last time a once in a century storm actually happened? Once a century? Because I think somewhere down the line we forgot that the earth is alive too. Because extinction was taught to us in elementary school as something in textbooks.
But. But now the sky turns orange so often that people care more about recording it with their phones than panicking and saving their own skin. And Mister Beast will plant 10 trees after cutting down 10,000 and be praised for being sustainable. And people will watch rich people build waterfront mansions while the coastline disappears beneath them. And maybe the scariest part is that the world is not ending all at once. It is ending quietly. Cause there's so much noise around us that we can't hear. and one day. someone's daughter will flip over a rock and finds nothing underneath it. No little red bugs. And outside there will be no fireflies. And No snow angels for her to lie in, and if we don't take action fast enough, then it will be too late.
