I'd say sci-fi *and* fantasy, but it's been such a long time since I've read a good fantasy novel... The Wheel of Time turned me off of any long-term investment; I got to book 11 (in which exactly nothing happens) and stopped. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant are my favourite fantasy novels; the only fantasy I've ever read that doesn't feel completely derivative of Tolkien.
