Hello Book Witches!Another Sunday, so another discussion post! The month is almost over, did you finish The Wicked Deep yet? I will post a final thoughts topic on the last day of the month so we can culminate all our thoughts in one post!
Who has some topics they want to discuss we haven't touched on?
Has the book picked up for you?
Have you found more depth in the characters?
What sticks out to you as the most important part of this book?
What parts of the book do you believe could have been written differently?
Is there anything you would change?
May your coffee be strong, and your books be magical!
Creep it real, witches.

Hello Book Witches!!I am so sorry I didn't get last weeks discussion up, I was extremely under the weather and really didn't accomplish much, so for that I apologize. I am hoping everyone is enjoying the book and has been able to get into the story (even if it was a slow start for you as it was for many of us in the group)
Also, I would just like to state our next read will be for the month of March as I haven't had many (only two) suggestions on books to read for our next read along - please don't forget to send me a DM either here, or on IG so we can compile a list of books we would like to read together for our next group read!
So this week, lets talk plot and settings.
- How does the plot resonate with you?
- Does the setting enhance, or take away from the storyline?
- How are you feeling about Penny? Bo? Any other characters that stick out to you?
What else would you like to discuss from next few chapters after our first duscission? Leave your comments below!
Remember if you've finished the book, not everyone has so don't spoil it!!
I am totally with you ladies on that! Bland, bland, bland when it comes to introducing characters. I feel there needs to be so much more dimension to the characters and they fell flat upon the beginning of the book. It took an immense amount of convincing myself that so many of my friends wouldn't have loved this book so much if it didn't get better.
My feelings on the Penny/Bo thing aren't exactly positive, but I hate that whole "character shows up out of no where - full while knowing it isn't out of no where - and our protagonist falls in love." like eff off with your insta-love bullshit.
BUT.
That being said, all I wanted to do was be wherever this book took place. The atmosphere was dynamic and I truly at times felt like I was lost in a seaside city with a majorly dark past.
All I wanted was to see when the Swan sisters would make their first strike, and who would fall victim.
Hope your coffee is strong on this Monday morning, and hopefully this book is magical for you all!!
Creep it real, witches!

Hello Book Witches!!I hope everyone is enjoying the book so far! I know a few of you (like myself) FLEW through the book, which shows me it was a good pick for this months read!
So this week, lets talk characters and world building.
- How have you felt about the characters Shea has introduced?
- Is there anyone that sticks out to you for any reason?
- How do you feel about the setting?
What else would you like to discuss from the first few chapters? Leave your comments below!
Remember if you've finished the book, not everyone has so don't spoil it!!
Sarah ~Goddessofthestory~ wrote: "It was a really fast read. Sorry, not sorry. But, I just could not stop reading. However, I am looking forward to some discussion. Can't wait to hear people's thoughts."Thank goodness I'm not the only one.. I started it at 12:01am (didn't want to start before January - LOL) and finished it at 2:45am. #SorryNotSorry
Hello Book Witches!Jana here with our reading schedule for our January read of The Wicked Deep.
January 1-8 - Chapters 1 - 5
*Discussion open on January 9th!*
January 9-16 - Chapters 6 - 11
*Discussion open on January 16th*
January 17-24 - Chapters 12 - 17
*Discussion open on January 23th*
January 25-31 - Chapters 18 - 22
*Discussion open on January 30th*
The chapters aren't all that long, so I feel five chapters in a week is do-able (even for someone like myself who works a full-time job six days a week!) but remember you do not have to follow this schedule exactly. I know sometimes I just NEED to know what happens next so I read ahead.
I am planning on posting every Sunday for discussions - then we can spend the next week talking about the last five chapters until the following Sunday when we would discuss the next ones!
I hope everyone is looking forward to reading this magical debut story from the ever amazing Shea Ernshaw. I can't wait to hear what everyone's thoughts are!
May your coffee be strong, and your books be magical!

Hey Book Witches!!Jana here setting up a discussion post where we can chat about our upcoming read in January of The Wicked DeepThe Wicked Deep.
Are you excited? I'm excited.
I hope you all have picked up your copy of this magical book, and if not, I hope you have plans to purchase, or get the book on loan from your local library (or a really amazing friend who may own it) as our read along begins in SIX days.
Please feel free to add questions and comments to this discussion, I will be posting another discussion topic of our reading schedule - but as previously mentioned, we know not everyone reads at the same pace so do NOT feel obligated to follow the schedule to the letter!
I look forward to discussing with you all and seeing what everyone thinks of this amazing book from Shea Ernshaw.
May your coffee be strong, and your books be magical!
Creep it real, witches.
Blessed be;

From the responses to my group message; January it is. I'll post a schedule up - don't feel pressured to follow it, and we can try to have a weekly discussion if everyone is up for it.
My apologies for the delay on the response. The winner of our poll on Goodreads was: The Wicked Deep. Would everyone like to start it next week, or would we like to move this to a January read since my pre-occupied self forgot to post the winner before December 1st! That way it does give ample time to grab a copy of the book if you don't have it already!
SORRY FOR THE DELAY BOOK WITCHES!!
All amazing suggestions; be sure to go check the poll out and add your suggestions as an option and cast your vote! We'll let the poll run for another week or so, then take the top 5 and go to another vote, combining both our goodreads group here as well as our IG page!
We can read anything and everything. I've just been on a major YA kick lately. Any suggestions welcome for future read a longs!!
Hello my witchy friends;I am looking to put together a list of books we would all like to see added to our Coven's Monthly TBR. I know there are so many amazing books out there involving magick, witchcraft, as well as those books that can and will teach us more about our crafts.
I've compiled a list of books myself (I have a list on my profile of "witchy reads" I am constantly adding to), but would love to see some added to this list!
So, please leave suggestions in this thread, and we will put a few of the suggestions to a vote each month so we can decide what we would like to read!
Helloo Coven Members! It's Jana, and I am looking to see who would be interested in doing a monthly read, trying to focus ourselves on a book that is either based on learning more about the teachings of witchcraft, or just a fantasy book about witches, there are so many things we could read.
As a practicing wiccan, I am always interested in reading more books about the craft and learning as much as I can, however, at times I just want to lose myself in another world, and forget the stresses of daily life, which is where my love of Y.A. novels comes from.
Suggestions are welcome on books we should have, and we can put it to a vote. I was thinking we could maybe start the club discussions either in November or December, but I am not opposed to starting in the new year if that works better for everyone involved. I would love to see more people get involved and become an active part of our little BookstaCoven.
So, please place a comment below letting me know if you are interested in this monthly idea, and if so, suggest a book to add to our witchy TBR (discussion post coming soon for that too!)
As always,
Creep it real; stay witchy and wild, and happy reading!
J.
I feel like I just made four new best friends. I adore meeting people with the same interests and I cannot wait to chat more about the things we love! I am so excited to get to know all of you; and if you aren't already - follow me on instagram @BookishWiccanI can't wait to hear more from all of you. Going to create a topic today for a read-a-long option, where we can pick a book and read together and discuss, if everyone is up for that!

Hello, and welcome to the BookstaCoven! This group was an idea spawned from Gwen {@gwenmitchellauthor} and Jana {@bookishwiccan} after Gwen's creation of the #WitchReadsOctober bookstagram challenge. We wanted to create a space for everyone to share their love of books, coffee, and all things witchy.
A little about me, your #BookstaCoven founder Jana, I am a 29-year-old wife, writer, petmum, caffeine queen, proud gryffindor, and practicing wiccan from Ontario, Canada. I started practicing over 15 years ago, and I have never looked back. My love of the occult started at an early age, and it's consumed me from the age of 16 on. Combine my love of the occult with my love of all things bookish, and you have my idea of the BookstaCoven. I am a collector of many things, from books, harry potter merchandise, and all things witchy, to coffee mugs, crystals, and candles. I cannot stick to one collection, and am always bringing more home to my library, altar, and other areas of my home. I cannot wait to connect with you all, and share my love of witchcraft, books, magick, and coffee with you all.
Creep it real, witches.
Love,
J.
