79382 So how is everyone's reading year going?

I can't believe it's almost October ... and the last quarter of the year.

My reaading has slowed due to the press of other issues in real life. I'll still get to at least 150 books read, but that's down from my usual 165-180. On the plus side, I seem to have had more 5-star reads this year, so YAY. (Or maybe in my old age, I'm getting easier in my grading.... whatever.)

I'm about to go on a vacay to Yellowstone. I've never been and a friend I went to Mt Rushmore with two years ago, gave me the chance to pick the national park this time.

And when I get back I'll attend the musical Waitress at the Skylight Music Theatre!. So glad the theatre season is back in swing!

79382 The experience of live theatre is irreplaceable!

79382 Dosha ... what did you go see?

Hubby and I went to the opening of our regional musical theatre - The Full Monty .... what a joy to experience live theatre again!

79382 Hi, Riley Rue. Was that your name on Shelfari as well?

As for COVID updates ... got my Pfizer booster two weeks ago. Feeling so much better about dining out and going to the theatre again now.

79382 Well, the year is half over. How did that happen so fast?!

Hoping many of you are fully vaccinated and able to return to a "new" normal.

I met up with a couple of friends from the Play Book Tag group (originally on Shelfari) last weekend for lunch!

79382 It's 2021! This has GOT to be a better year than 2020 ....

Hope you are all safe and enjoying some reading time. We're having snow today ... fat, wet, beautiful flakes. Just took a little drive to the convenience store and passed the village sledding hill ... COVERED with kids and families trying out their new Xmas sleds / tubes / dishes / snowboards. Just made my heart happy to watch them for a bit.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

79382 Update on Hubby's friend .... he has been MEDICALLY CLEARED! His wife (who self-quarantined for 14 days ... symptom free) is also medically cleared.

He hadn't left his room, let alone his house (except when he was in the hospital) for just over a month. As he said in his phone call yesterday .... "I can now leave the house, but I have nowhere to go!"

79382 Yes, Cin ... he is back home and recovering. Fingers crossed he doesn't suffer a relapse. He was NOT completely over the virus when he was released from the hospital ... BUT ... the hospital needed the bed for sicker patients, so he was sent home.

79382 I hope everyone is taking precautions and seriously adhering to social distancing during this episode.

Hubby and I are safe and sound, but learned two days ago that his best friend from high school is in intensive care - positive for COVID19. Really threw us for a loop.

And I find that I can't concentrate enough to get much serious reading done.

Well, this, too, shall pass.

Be safe out there. Wash Your Hands. And Try to find some moment of pleasure in each day.

79382 Here we are at the end of 2018 .... Hope everyone is getting the hang of Goodreads (though we all miss Shelfari).

Happy holidays, everyone. Whatever your celebration, hope you enjoy the company of friends and family.

Hi, Joseph ... glad you've checked in.

While I think that Kythe42 is probably correct about your data being lost .... it doesn't hurt to ask. I'd suggest that you contact Goodreads directly at:
support (at) goodreads(dot)com
Be as specific as you can be about your Shelfari account (user name).

Good luck!

79382 For the groups here on GR that you belong to ... do you "follow" the discussions?

There's a link at the bottom of each thread Notify me when people comment If you click that you'll get a notification that there's new activity in that thread.

You can also choose to follow ALL threads/comments in a particular group so you get notification of any activity in that group.

I typically do not do this, because I'm on the site every day and check all my groups routinely. But if I'm running - or participating in - a particular challenge, I'll follow that thread for the duration, so I can keep on top of things.

79382 I'm on LT (have been for years before Shelfari's demise). I mostly use it as a back-up of my reading record. I don't find it intuitive or easy to use. I don't like that you cannot go back and edit the title of a post/thread. And LT does not have nested remarks either.

I've joined several challenge groups here on Goodreads and was doing those while still on Shelfari. Basically in those days I used GR for challenges, and Shelfari for discussions.

I agree that the lack of nested remarks makes it more challenging to discuss a book but several groups seem to have found decent alternatives for this. PBT is one such group.

My husband does not believe in sunscreen and he has the lily-white "peaches n cream" complexion that burns easily. Today he commented that yesterday he was working in the yard "early, before it got hot." He hadn't really planned to work in the yard, so was wearing short sleeves. But he just had to pull some weeds. He put on a pair of gloves ... and now has a burn from his elbow down half his forearm!

79382 How's everyone doing?

It's 4th of July today ... any plans?

For our Canadian members ... did you do anything special last weekend for Canada Day?

Hope everyone is having a good reading year.
