I haven't bought anything monthly in years but in my experience, most of today's comics are paced with the inevitable trade paperback in mind and a lot of them aren't very satisfying on their own. I can't imagine reading something like Gotham Central one issue a month.

I was just thinking about re-reading Zot! the other day.

1. Jack Knight - Starman
2. Detective Driver - Gotham Central
3. Shade - Shade The Changing Man (the Vertigo version, not the Ditko version)
4. The Maxx - The Maxx
5. Jesse Custer - Preacher
6. Kate Spencer - Manhunter
7. Batman
8. Captain America
9. Spider-Man
10. Black Adam - Justice Society, New 52. Since they seem to have trouble doing anything with Captain Marvel/Shazam, DC should probably just focus on Black Adam and have the Marvel Family as the supporting cast.
Transmetroploitan and the first couple Authority trades are pretty entertaining. I like the premise of Planetary and will probably give it a shot in 2013.

not cool."
It would be different if we were born yesterday and didn't know they were going to hit the reset button before the next Spider-Man movie comes out.

Any thoughts on Marvel Now? I'm not as informed on what's going on as I like but I'm excited about Matt Fraction doing two Fantastic Four books and somewhat interested in Uncanny Avengers. I'm really curious about what's going on with Spider-Man. They're hinting that someone else is going to be behind the mask after Amazing Spider-Man #700 and it's possibly the current Scarlet Spider, aka Kaine. It'll be intersting to see what happens considering the uproar after the last time they tried putting someone else under the mask.
Anthony wrote: "Is Marvel NOW their response to DC doing its reboot? "They say it isn't but I keep hearing phrases like "shaking up the status quo" and "shuffling creative teams around." I guess that sounds better than "DC made a lot of cash relaunching their books. We should get in on that too."
Anne wrote: "Dan, I've never been a huge FF fan. Is Fraction's take any good? I love his early Iron Man stuff."It hasn't started yet as far as I know. I'll be waiting for trade paperbacks in any case.
I'm excited about Matt Fraction doing two Fantastic Four books as part of Marvel NOW! and Dan Slott's doing good work on Spider-Man. Other than that, I'm not overly interested in the goings-on at Marvel.
Kemper wrote: "I've given my nephew a couple of the Showcase editions of Batman from the '50s. The goofy stories from that era are great for young kids. "I've read two of the Showcase World's Finest comics and they are hilarious. Superman and Batman spend a lot of time lying to Lois Lane and acting like Archie and Jughead.
Brandon wrote: "Reading Preacher right now and loving it! I'm going to have to search out some more Vertigo projects."Your next Vertigo reads will be American Vampire, 100 Bullets, and The Sandman. Done.
I was thinking today while I was out driving around is that Marvel definitely has the better villains. A lot of DC's villains don't really pose a believable threat to the heroes they're pitted against.
@Kemper - I have the Hulk and Captain America books like that. The Marvel Essentials line is pretty cool. I've got a Fantastic Four, and Avengers, Marvel Team-Up and two or three of the Spider-Man ones. DC's Showcase line is about the same. The only one of those I own that I recommend is Showcase Presents: Doom Patrol, Vol. 1.
