Books like that can be fun but it depends on how well the character is portrayed and if the plot can pull itself along (which is more difficult if there isn't much background information) but I'm sure soon enough it'll all be explained ^.^ and E&E is really steampunk, it's a great start so far!

Switched by Amanda Hocking or the Watersong series (also by Amanda Hocking) are some really great books!
