i like the idea of a local author selection, so maybe for May? Great suggestion. Love that Chad has something for us for March !
Hi folks. A few of us recently discussed Beryl Markham's West with the Night, a gorgeous work that I would recommend. Unless someone has a suggestion for a quick read for March discussion, we may wait until late April for our next one. I will put up a poll for our Apr selection some time today.
About half through. The story about the puppets is my fave so far. They're like live "keys" or avatars of the real characters. There's multiple characters in each of these stories, and several seem to follow tangents off of tangents.
OK let's see if Thurs works for others. I know Alex and Beth were interested, but they might be working.
Here's a few more...Herman Hesse Narcissus and Goldmund
Emily Bronte Wuthering Heights
Albert Camus The Plague
George Orwell The Road the Wigan Pier
George Eliot Silas Marner
Wallace Stegner Angle of Repose
Just resumed reading. I read the wiki page today for Truman Capote and found it somewhat illuminating, but not as much as the Portraits and Observations collections of essays. Drink of the Book of the Month: The Truman - a strong hibiscus tea poured over North African beans, splashed with vodka.
Found my copy of Margarita just yesterday. I'd decided to read something else when I first lost it. See everyone at the next one.
Still reeling from Essbaum's Hausfrau, which has led to a lot of psychoanalytic criticism readings, mostly Kristeva and Lacan. Reading Baldwin's Giovanni's Room, which I adore. Favorite so far this year is The Meadow by James Galvin.
No! But we might make you adopt a book from the bookstore that you have to take care of the rest of your life. An old one, like that Guttenburg-looking bible in the office from the 1800s.
