I really liked the first Septimus Heap book, Magyk, but as the series has progressed it has turned more into "the adventures of" Septimus Heap, rather than a story that follows a timeline. It is written for children, and I will finish the series but have been disappointed in the latter books.
Fablehaven is a really good series, and his writing gets better each book, I would HIGHLY recommend his books if you like Septimus Heap.

8632 Check out Shannon Hale, Goose girl and the rest of the Books of Bayern. These all have strong female characters with a touch of romance. The Princess Academy is also really good. She also wrote Book of a Thousand Days. They are put in Children's section, because they are pretty clean, no Hot and Steamy stuff, just the falling in love part, the writing is excellent. She didn't specifically write for children, that is just how they got classified. They don't feel like Children's books, but I listened to some on CD in the car with my kids and didn't have to worry about what they were hearing.

I am currently reading the Wheel of Time, it is not really romance, just fantasy, but there is several romantic stories in it. It is definitely not for kids, but also an excellent series.

8632 I am definitely a Kade fan. I think his depth is just not seen because he doesn't want it to be. He seems like the Male type that keeps everything inside and has a hard time letting others in. Devlen is scary to me, the rebellious nature and addiction he had, plus the twisted relationship with Opal just does not add up to healthy in my book. If Opal was a friend of mine I would tell her she needs to go to counseling. Falling in love with someone who tortured you just is not normal, even if he has changed. Maybe the best thing for Opal is if she chose someone else altogether!

8632 I really liked this book, I was surprised how different it was to the Study books, it was a lot more sci-fi, not fantasy. I really liked how Trella was very stubborn, not accepting of the norm. I liked their names too, not to hard to pronounce. I really want to know what is in the letter that Trella's mom wrote! I sure hope that is in the next book! I was surprised by the Gateway, I kind of thought that was maybe the case, but I was so sad that Cog died! I wonder if the history is deep inside of the computer anywhere or if it has all been deleted by the Travas. I was also surprised by the ending, I didn't know where it could go after the Gateway kind of ended up being a dead end, so I thought the next book would just be about reorganization. So the ending caught me off guard, and I hope it means that no more babies will be taken from their moms, that was so hard for me, I started crying! I liked the book and I want the next one!

8632 Alethea if you did own a bookshop I would so come to visit, just like I hope to go to other tourist attractions, it would be So COOL!!! You could name it something like Sitia books, and you could have a little cafe with criollo and coffee LOL, I loved that part of the book too, I laughed and my husband asked me why and I told him that you were over Study Buddies, he thought that was cool, but didn't seem as excited as I was about that part.

8632 LOL!!! Well I am glad you got the book, and I'm sure your boyfriend will live lol, does he have a hobby, footy, gaming, or something? Maybe you could give him that giant penny and tell him to go buy something pretty.

8632 Wow, I really like the Storm Glass Trailer! The Poison Study one was interesting, I laughed when she "fainted" so funny. Anyway I lived in Australia for awhile, the Aussie accent didn't sound that weird to me, but I thought their rendition was...um...hmm...different, yet I think it will pique interest so that is a good thing!

8632 I know they say you can't judge a book by the cover, but a good cover doesn't hurt, lol! This book looks Great! Can't wait to read it.
8632 Wow, Maria, is that a hint as to something that may come up in a future book?

8632 Sorry that I bought mine early. So why does it not count if I did? Should I go buy another one?

8632 I'm so excited that it was a typo! It must be frustrating to have something that is so personal and have them mess it up!
8632 Seth's comment should be directed to the "ask Maria" topic where the question of the commander's sex is questioned as to how it pertains to the story. Seth it is nice to have a different opinion, keep making comments, and my husband may feel like he can join. :)

8632 I just finished Sea Glass and I was wondering if we are going to learn more about the Bloodrose clan in the next book?

8632 How about a contest that starts on 09/09/09 and the winner is decided on 9/18? I think that would be funny.

8632 LOL, my husband thought about joining and he is a bit intimidated by all the ladies on here, but he listens in when I read off these posts and laughs.
8632 Why not? You could ask why is Yelena magical, or why is Valek such a good assassin. I think it is important to know that the commander has 2 souls inside of him, he isn't cross dressing and thinking he is a male when he is a female or vice versa he/she is both. To me it was a matter of a different world, a magical world, and it was important because Yelena was a soul finder and so she could see inside of a body and see the right soul in that body. Maybe it didn't have to be in the book, but it was a matter of her power. She was a soulfinder, she just didn't see through his disguise, she saw into his soul. I think it added depth to the character. But maybe Maria could answer it better, since it was a question for her...

Did that work? I added a photo of me holding the book, can't figure out how to make it work though...

8632 HA! I have the book! My husband was on Barnes and Noble.com and saw that they said it was available for pick up and he went and they went in the back and got it for him. I don't have to give it back right? Now that it is mine I can keep it!? I mean it is not September yet, I am so excited! Yeah I have the book!!!
