87373 I am currently re-launching Afrobyte.co.uk on 28 February 2016 and it will look completely different to what you currently find at that website address.

My website is for the black woman reader, as the polls have shown they are the most ferocious readers. However I will have books for the black men and children as well.

I am looking for black authors willing to write an article of their choice that would be interesting to the black female audience for the site. I will then build a page for the author, with a photo and an original mini bio (200 words), listing all their books available to buy from Amazon at this time. I plan to add more outlets in the future.

It would be great to also get original synopsis for each book. I would not want to use written stuff already on the internet. It needs to be original and fresh.

Even though I am based in the UK, I also link to the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Most of these countries have a high black population and they also read in English.

So all it will cost you is the time to write a small original blurb on your books, an interesting article, a nice author photo and a concise bio on yourself. I will do the rest.

Please let me know if you are interested.

87373 What do you need to do?:

1. Send in a succinct and witty review of a book (preferably a positive review). The review cannot be posted anywhere else on the internet (I will check). 250 to 300 words only, to keep the review focussed and tight.

2. You can review any book of your choosing, BUT it must be available as a hard copy for people to buy. Not just a pure e-Book.

3. The author must be of African origin or Black, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-American, Afro-Latin, Afro-European or from Africa, but could live anywhere on this planet.

4. I would like to see a selfie with the book, to prove you have a copy and read it. Only the 3 winners will have their selfie published (unless otherwise advised). Selfie has to be decent, no weirdness please ;-)

5. You have until the 26th of February 2016 (midnight UK time) to send me the review. I will try to announce the winner on the 28th February 2016, However should I get inundated with reviews to read, I may take somewhat longer, therefore will give myself up to the 12th of March 2016 to choose the winners.

6. The review has to be written in English, without any slang or profanity. As the website has international visitors, they may not understand slang or local colloquialisms.

7. The competition is open to anyone living anywhere on this planet, as long as I can send you the physical book.

8. There is no cash replacement. All you will get is a physical book.

9. You have to be 18 years old or older.

10. AfroByte.co.uk decision on the winners is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The three winners will get one book each. I will send each winner a list of the books available and they can chose the one they want.

The winners have to agree to have their selfie with the book they reviewed posted on Afrobyte.co.uk, I will try my best to cut off the head if the winner wants me to do this, before I put the photo on the website. So make sure the book cover is not too close to your face/head when taking the selfie. The photo displayed will be quite small anyway. I will keep the identity anonymous if requested, but plan to just show initials and country.

Once the review has been submitted/sent to me I can post it on the website Afrobyte within a year. This review is then solely the property of AfroByte.co.uk and cannot be posted on any other website worldwide. AfroByte.co.uk holds the right to post the review or NOT on the website. If the review has not been posted on Afrobyte.co.uk within a year (365 days), you can then post the review wherever you wish to do so after that year has passed.

I will send the books out to the winners latest by 31 March 2016. I will keep the winners updated as best as I can.

The plan is to have this competition once a month. Depending on the uptake. Please share with your sisters and friends.

Email the selfies to afrobyteuk@gmail.com
I have never done this before so if my email address does not come through you can direct message me on Goodreads and I will give you my email address.

I can also be found on Twitter as @AfroByteUK

So take some photos and send me your original reviews of your favorite book by a black author!

Thank you!

Relaunch of the website party. Yay! Working hard on the website as we speak.

The relaunch party will be on Sunday 28th February 2016, in the afternoon here in the UK, from 4PM until 8PM (Greenwich Mean Time, GMT). We are 5 hours ahead of New York City, USA (it would be from 11am till 3pm there). It will be held online on Goodreads in the Afrobyte Group pages.

I have some goodies to give to the winners of an Afrobyte.co.uk review writing competition. Real books made of paper! You can win one of 3 books, which means 3 winners will be chosen! So what have you got to lose? The books will be by Black Authors.

What do you need to do?:

Come to the AfroByte Group home and click on the link labelled February 2016 Black Book Review Competition, to read the rules and requirements, to be able to win a free copy of a book written by a black author.

I can also be found on Twitter as @AfroByteUK

Thank you!

87373 Hiya everyone.

I finally have found someone who will re-design AfroByte.co.uk for us, without charging an arm and a leg. It is finally moving forward. I cannot wait to see the new site. It may take a couple of months but hey, at least its getting done now. Whew...

87373 Hi Kenya

Reviewing or reading books is a grand idea.

I am still trying to find a website designer to revamp our website. One who will not charge an arm and a leg, where I have to remortgage the house.

I will try to get things sorted once I get back from holiday.

87373 Afrobyte is being born. Currently I am wrestling with WordPress. I have noted its limitations. I need to get a developer to create add-ons for me to make it work more for me the way I want it to work.
Off to look for a developer...
