Why was this his fault now? Well everything was but the not talking thing he didn't think so. He put his plate away and picked up his daughter, smiling at her sadly. "I hope we get this figured out before you know what's going on." He said softly.
He shrugged and lapsed into silence. He finished his food then went to the kitchen and washed his plate.
"I read it in the book Saff gave us." He said, shifting awkwardly. He had looked through parenting stuff online as well but Saff had given them a book on how babies developed and grew, even though it was for humans it was fairly accurate for drakis as well.
"It's normal for babies, she'll sleep through the night when she gets a little older." Callum said, cutting his waffles with his fork.
He was in the kitchen waiting on a waffle to pop out of the toaster when she came back and he smiled wanly. "Let's just say she appears to be a night owl." He joked as his waffle popped up. He snatched it quickly and dropped it on his plate alongside two more- they were small!- and smeared jam on them before sitting down with a fork to eat.
When Callum woke his stomach was growling and he knew Carla wasn't in the house. His mate's emotions had been conflicted for a while now and he knew they needed to talk but honestly... He was afraid. He didn't want to hear her vocalize not wanting their daughter or accusing him of doing something she didn't want. If he was being honest he was terrified she would decide he was just like the drakis from her pride and decide to leave.
He shifted on the couch a bit but continued sleeping. He'd tried to take as much responsibility as he could with their daughter, still feeling guilty since he knew Carla hadn't wanted a child. Maybe still didn't want one, he wasn't sure. They hadn't talked about it.
(I don't think so? I don't remember either)Callum was passed out on the couch after being on baby duty the night before, trying to keep his little girl quiet so Carla could get some sleep.
Saff glanced at Callum, her look clearly saying that she was leaving this to him. Callum described her, voice thick with emotion.
"She's a girl." Saff said, smiling at them gently.Callum didn't notice it but tears started dripping down his face and looked at his infant daughter. She was so small and looked like an old lady but she was his and Carla's and he loved her intensely.
(Notifications aren't going off for this thread D:< )"Probably just a bit tired right now. If the little thing keeps crying you can try a feeding but for now everything is alright." Saff said. "Maybe just a little contact for now." She suggested.
He nodded and walked her and Gillian out, watching them as they left before returning inside to sit with Carla who was still sleeping. Saff had cleaning things up a bit and checked on the baby to make sure nothing was amiss with its health. While it was only crying weakly every now and then she couldn't find any problems with it so she just told Callum to keep a close watch and to call her if there were any problems later on.
Callum answered carefully. "I don't think it's really sunken in yet." He was still worried about Carla, how she was feeling after being so weak for so long. He blamed himself for wanting this and now that he had it he just felt guilty. But he didn't want to unload all of that onto Phoenix just because she'd asked him a simple, normal question.
"Tired." He smiled though it was strained since he was still worried about Carla. He wanted to be happy that the baby was okay but his concern for his mate overrode that.
"We'll do that later." Callum said though Carla had already passed out from exhaustion by the time he even began to speak. Saff came over and gently took the baby from him and set the little one down in a crib.
"How are you feeling?" Callum asked, sitting near her with their baby cradled carefully in his arms.
