The original six books by Frank Herbert are not bettered by the prequels and whatnot, but if you have enjoyed Franks Duniverse they offer some nice bonus for those who want more.Steer very clear of Hunters and Worms of Dune as they manage to foul up most of the non-Freank Herbert series.
The Bene Gesserit, that mysterious sisterhood that is far more powerfull and engenering than men ever thought they could be.
I always thought that LetoII made sure that mankind was no longer dependant on spice and the guilds to move about and that somebody with his skills could no longer follow people around. It was no longer possible to rule mankind as the model before his ruling was, he freed mankind.
I like the Lynch movie and found the Smithee extended version having some charm as well. The two series were very well done and due to their length gave a better presentation and stayed closer to Herberts books.
It depends in what mood I am when deciding to watch any of them. However whenever I watch any of them I feel this urge to read a Frank Herbert book.
