89598 I loved "Of a feather" by Scott Weidensaul. I thought it was a pretty complete history and loved learning about the opera glass ladies and how the ABA got started. Not to mention solid, organized writing from an author with a clear passion for birds.

89598 Welcome Becky! I am an avid birder since I was a kid and just recently took up photography(attempting anyways). My second passion is books. I have worked in the book industry for the last 7 years and am lucky to have access to a lot of books. I am not a good writer and am more of a math/statistics nerd. I am the type of person that will sit down and read a field guide cover to cover. Evolution and field ID are always subjects on my current reading table. I live in Indiana and bird mostly in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. Cheers

89598 For this book club, I'd like to have an open forum for recommending our monthly group read.

89598 I just wanted to make a list early in the year of my most wanted books being published this year. I have quite the list so far and I will add some more as they are announced.

First off, the 2 books that are buzzing with the word "2013" are:

1. Peterson field guide to Bird Sounds - this is a biggy because it not just bird songs, but calls, screeches, and squawks. Finally! A hopeful complete companion to all the earbirders.

2. The Crossley ID Guide: Raptors - I enjoyed the photography in the eastern guide quite a bit and the teaser plates on http://www.crossleybooks.com/ are exciting. Should be an instant classic.
