"Finding Miracles" by Julia Alvarez is a Hispanic book about a high school girl is trying to find out who she really is and whether her birth parents are still alive. I was able to relate since we are both Mexican. i understood why she didn't want to people to know she was adopted and was shocked at the decision she made. I would recommend this book to teenagers who like Hispanic books. Julia Alvarez has written other Hispanic books such as "How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents" and "Once Upon A Quinceanera: Coming of Age in the USA". She's won the Vermont Governor's Award. How would you the news of being adopted? Would you want to go searching for your birth parents.
"What My Mother Doesn't know" by Sonya Sones is poetry structured novel that I recommend to 13 year old girls and older. It's interesting, because it shows emotions that girls feel throughout their teenage years. I really enjoyed it, I related to it a lot especially since my mom doesn't know everything about me. This book won the Iowa Teen Book award in 2005-2006. It's similar to "What My Girlfriend Doesn't know which is also a book written by Sonya Sones.
This book sounds really interesting and its probably sad since she was held captive for seven years.
"Who Will Tell My Brother?" by Marlene Carvell is about a boy is tired of racism in his school. He wants to change the school mascot an Indian because it doesn't help the racism stop. I recommend this book to people who like science fiction, are against racism and to teenagers. this book has recieved the award of WINNER, IRA CHILDREN's BOOK AWARD. Other books by the same other are "Caught Between the Pages" and "Sweetgrass Basket". A qoute from this book containing racism is on page 112 "timber nigger" which made the main character angry because he finds no use in using racist words. While reading this book i was very confused at first but then got the hook of it and i enjoyed it yet disliked all the racism it contained. What would you do in his shoes? Would you try to stop the racism in school and stand up for others? Would you be willing to have people look at you ugly or talk bad about you?
Power of Love by Elizabeth Chandler is the second book of Kissed by an Angel. The first book is Kissed by an Angel and the third one is Soulmates which are by the same author as well as Summer in the City. I would recommend this book mostly to girls who are interested in romance an mystery around the age of middle school and up. This book made me think a lot and have many predictions. I really recommend this book it's very interesting and unique. I mean imagine knowing that someone is trying to kill someone you love or is very important to you but you can't do anything because theirs no way of you to communicate with them? First of all, would you ever sacrifice your life for the one you love? in some parts of the book I wanted to cry and i felt the main guy's anxiousness. This book is not like all the romance books or mystery books this book keeps you attached and interested, it makes you feel a relation as soon as you start reading it.
The Stalker by Joan Lowery Nixon is a fast novel that contains thriller and mystery. I am recently reading this book and I recommend it to teenagers especially the ones who like mysteries. “A fast-paced mystery thriller.” by Booklist. Two quotes from when the stalker is talking “and I know what to do with people who become dangerous to me.” page 73, ch.10 and “That was funny. At least it was funny to me. And it scared her. That’s what I wanted to do-scare her good.” page 91 ch.12. This book is really interesting and made me want to keep reading on and on. I would sometimes be scared of what the stalker might do to Jennifer. This book is much more interesting than other books it short and about mystery. Others books written by Joan Lowery Nixon are The Haunting, The name of the game was murder, and Nightmare.
