First, in order for a character to work, their personality needs to match their history, and Mara's does NOT. No-one who has been abused or enslaved behaves that flippantly towards their abuse. It also does not make sense that someone from the lower class could read and speak a foreign language; schooling was expensive, and no-one would pay for a servant to learn Hieroglyphs just because their "nice." Second, while it's nice to see a book that makes Hatshepsut the bad guy, you still need to do it accurately. The ancient Egyptians didn't erase her because she was a woman or because she was a bad Pharaoh, they erased her because she inadvertently associated herself with Set when she illegally assumed the throne. She wasn't a harpy from hell or a perfect feminist goddess, she was a human being.
