50x66 May I kick the ball back to you, Mary. There are shelves of books out there that talk of the escape lines used by the allies in WW2. A good number of the people running those lines, helping to run those lines, providing safe houses, food, documentation, etc, did that because ..... of harm done to their friends and family: that desire remained unquenched.

I'll use the word profound (there may be better alternatives): Leonid states, "to the elephant and its long memory."

Recent news article, doing the round at present: Memorial, a civil rights organisation in Russia trying to uncover the fate of the thousands sent to the gulags or executed, under Stalin. Some of the volunteers in that org have family that suffered this. Putin has closed the org down. I do not doubt, for one moment, the Russian has a long memory and the desire for justice, with many, remains unquenched.

I’m studying history (at university) at present and have the most remarkable opportunity of living with a retired history teacher: an awfully kind lady: my good friend’s mother..."

Mary, Mary: great to see you here. Quite some time ago you may have got upset easily: I doubt so now. You're a hero: all the work you've done to form the unofficial 'TRC' group. I've just joined this group, tooooooooooooooooo, after seeing you have.

50x66 I live just to the west of Chicago and spend my days working as a payroll clerk. My passion and that of my wife is making furniture; of which the house now abounds and has become a small business enterprise (we sell to friends and friends of friends). My wife’s family has a long military history; she was USAF and how we met. I did some time in the British Army (The Pay Corps). We read in our down-time, more so now the boys are getting ready to flit the roost. We tend towards good quality thrillers, espionage and political intrigue. (I did 5 years in the pay office of Military Intelligence; I'm the guy that signed off the expenses, so got to know quite a few of those on the operational side of things). Any recommendation will be gratefully received.
