KamalThe point that needs to be made is that "extremist" and "extremism" are relative concepts. I may be considered an extremist by someone who is very "liberal". People may even be "extemist' liberals. So lets not use these terms and create straw-men which we then break down without actually knowing exactly who we are referring to.
Kamal wrote: "Assalamu Alykum;I have written a book and would like to know your feedback and opinion on the subject of the book. The title is: Islam: From Purism to Extremism of Spiritually Misled some Muslims
..."
What is the central theme of this book? I have seen the contents page and am trying to understand the underlying theme of the book
The best work on the sirahIf someone were to ask: What in your opinion is the best work on the sirah? There can be no doubt that as Muslims we can only reply by saying that it has to be the Qur’an. Undoubtedly the quran serves as the best sirah of the Prophet. And just as it is paradigmatic to speak of the Prophets live as the Qur’an, it is equally true to say that the Qur’an is the best sirah of the Prophet of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasalllam. This also puts paid to the idea that a good sirah is a chronological account of the biography of the Nabi of Allah Ta’ala sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
Reading the Qur’an as a book of Sirah brings the Qur’an alive. It provides context and is a clarion call to recognize the place of revelation in the living and dynamic Muslim community then and by extension in our own time as well.
I am busy compiling a list and have made some selections. Sirat al-Mustafah of Khandelvi is now available in a good translation and has also been abridged by a publisher in South Africa
Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi's work on the Sirah has been published by Turath Publications and includes maps and other useful additions.
Shallabi's 3 vol. work is very good. Said Ramadan al-Buti's Fiqh al-Sira (trans. Nancy Roberts) is a masterful study. The list is growing quite fast; so watch this space...
