I love this idea. A friend of mine told me about this list, and I think it's a great one to shoot for. Here's my list so far.

Read one book by an author of the opposite gender.
Fray by Joss Whedon

Read one book by a living author.
Sanctuary by Meg Cabot (from the 1-800-Where-R-U series)

Read one book by deceased author.
Casino Royale by Ian Fleming

Read one book which was originally written in a language other than English. (Translated or not, your choice)

Read one book which is non-fiction.
American History: A Geek's Guide by Douglas B. Lyons

Read one genre book. (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Western, Romance, Horror)

Looks like I've got everything but the translated book covered. I'd recommend every one of these books, too. Maybe add a few more categories, like "Read a book by an author you've never read before" or "Read a book you pick at random at the bookstore/library" or other such things. Just a suggestion. I love this list, though.

A friend of mine told me about this challenge, and I went through my list... (Thank God I keep a list of all the books I've read for the year. Otherwise this would be impossible!) I'll list the first author I came to with the letter, and add in another in parentheses if I really like someone else and want to recommend. I've got most of these people on my book list here, but some I just haven't updated onto GR. But the ones I recommend are definitely in the list, so please check them out if you don't know them already!!

Oh! And I'll star the ones that are new to me this year, too, for good measure.

I'm just getting into the groups thing on goodreads, but I've been doing a book challenge for the last two years, thanks to the LiveJournal community "50bookchallenge." Their goal is 50 books in a year, but plenty of us do different numbers.

My original goal was to beat last year's 49, and read 50 books. Since January, though, I've come to discover that that goal was going to be easily surpassed. So I've reset my goal, and it's now 75. I'm currently at 51, and am in the middle of two books.
