For a VERY brief time, actress Clara Bow had a relationship with Bela Lugosi. She was the one who revealed that he ate onions like apples. She soon tired of his iffy personal hygiene, and moved on to other suitors. Bela was a product of a different country and a different era. Despite his personal shortcomings, he was a compelling dramatic presence.
I once read that Bela Lugosi had really bad teeth from poor dental hygiene and lots of cigar-smoking. And, he ate onions like apples! The last one wouldn't hurt his teeth, but it didn't help his breath!
Hello, I'm horror author
Mark McLaughlin. Thanks for providing this forum on GoodReads. :-)I love vampire books and am a voracious reader. My favorite authors are Robert Aickman, H.P. Lovecraft, Basil Copper, August Derleth, and Bram Stoker, among hundreds of others.
My favorite literary vampire? It'll always be DRACULA. As a child, it was the first 'grown-up' book I read! :-)
My favorite literary vampire will always be DRACULA .... as for cinematic vampires, Bela Lugosi was creepy, but he never showed any fangs! John Carradine was too scrawny as Dracula -- no meat on his bones! Udo Kier was too effete and petulant, but then, he was playing a more humorous Dracula. So I guess my favorite movie vampire was ... Grace Jones in VAMP! :-)
