Ok...I know I'm in a safe place here, so I will be able to recount the awful thing that happened to me. I was flipping through channels and came across Breaking Dawn Part 1. Instead of immediately changing the channel and hurling the remote out the window, I watched some of it...as Dan has said, one needs to know one's enemy...and I felt that my revulsion could not be complete unless I had at least a bit of working knowledge of the literary and cinematic abortion that is Twilight. So, I watched approximately a half hour of the movie...and now I feel soiled (someone hold me). It was so much worse than I even expected it to be! For the sake of pete...it is so god-awful it is beyond my powers of description! Suffice it to say that I would rather drill screws through my eyes, carve out my own liver with a spoon, or swallow broken glass and rusty nails rather than EVER watch another minute of one of those movies!
And now I need a shower...in bleach. And to find a PTSD support group.
Hey fellow mods...sorry I've been MIA lately. It's final time at school, so I've been kinda offline for a bit. I'll be back though...don't anyone start sparkling while I'm gone!! ;)
What an interesting and original premise! Definitely on my "to read" list. One question though...is "Operation Immortal Servitude" a re-worked version of the original "Team of Darkness?" Or a completely different novel? If they are two different books, should I read one before the other?

What a narcissistic ass she is! "Yes, I caused their problems...and I caused the Hindenburg crash, every world war, Hurricane Katrina, and every hangnail every human being has ever gotten...it's all ME!! Look at me everyone! Pay attention to me me ME!"
I would NEVER do that...because her dog didn't make it out. :( If I was going to hypothetically torch a condo, I would certainly make sure all the animals were out and that the entire cast of Twilight, and Meyer, were inside. :P
I really like "The Light at the End." I've read it before, but for those who haven't, it would be a great book for the group read. :)

Why am I not surprised that her brother is a jerk? Seems that the rotten apple doesn't fall very far in that family tree
I totally agree! Ok...I am the first to admit that I haven't read the books (but I'm thinking I might have to throw myself under the bus..as Dan says, it helps to "know the enemy.") However, it's impossible to escape the Twilight frenzy, much to my dismay, so I have heard about them. I totally agree with what both Kimberly and Dan stated...the characters, especially the vampires, are completely one dimensional!! There is no conflict, no depth...I really enjoyed the diagram Dan posted in one of the threads about the proper way to write a story. You NEED conflict, you need weakness or issues, in order to have a compelling story! And, could someone please tell me WHY the character of Bella is immune to EVERYTHING?? And why she seems to have an entire population of beings ("wussy" vampires, "evil" vampires, werewolves, and humans) literally willing to die for her? She is human right? I guess since she is Meyer's literary doppleganger of the girl she desperately wants to be, she is just a special unique snowflake of a human, huh?
So...how exactly does one drive like a Cullen? Are they armed with a bedazzler? Do they sit and brood at stoplights? Did they have vampire baseball gear in the back seat? Inquiring minds want to know.
Hmmm...not a bad idea, I'll have to give it some thought. The only problem is that I'm really not that funny...I just have no filters. Lol
Kyle's novel would not even be in the same ballpark as Meyer's. Kyle's novel will be far superior in both writing and substance. Now you may be asking yourself, Lucy..you've never met Kyle, nor sampled his writing...how can you possibly know this? Well, allow me to explain. The only way Kyle's novel could be worse than Meyer's is if he blindfolded himself, pulled down his pants and slammed his ass on the keyboard a few hundred times. Actually, I think that's how Meyer writes her books. Do you think she'll sue me for revealing her trade secret?
I wish I could comment on these discussions...sigh...I may have to actually (gag) watch the movies, just so I can have an informed opinion. Oh the humanity!!
Hello everyone and welcome all new members!! I'm so excited to see the group taking off and I hope you all enjoy your time here!
You are a better person than me Dan! I couldn't even get through the first book. I think the fact that you were able to wade through all 498 pages of that tripe qualifies you for a commendation of bravery!
