98232 The book first. Always. Because I care most about the book and I don't want that influenced or spoiled by the film. For books that I really, really like I will often avoid seeing the film because I know I'll just be disappointed. Examples in recent times include Disgrace by JM Coetzee and The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I'm also determined not to see the film versions of the great Alan Moore graphic novels From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There are a few great films of great books (like To Kill a Mockingbird), but given they're usually a disappointment give me the book first...
