Hi allI apologize for being an invisible moderator. My life is so busy at times that I forget that I have a group on Goodreads!
I presented an Inservice on nonverbal communication in February. I was consumed with gathering information and learning how to present to a group of teachers and speech therapists - I was presenting on the Friday afternoon before our February break! My presentation was Nonverbal Communication and featured an episode from Seinfeld where George had grapefruit juice in his eye and he winked all day. Overall it was well received...and I survived!
Congratulations Wendy!I have a presentation in February - I thought I would present the latest information on emotional literacy to my itinerant teacher colleagues BUT my supervisor wants me to present this info to the entire department! : )
Hi WendyYou may want to try this website www.casel.org. It has lots of information and resources on social/emotional development. Maybe it can point you in the right direction!

Hi Janette!Your class sounds wonderful! When I was teaching in the resource room at my local high school, I used poetry, creative writing and classics (i.e. Cyrano de Bergerac)with my students to start discussions as well as work on their writing skills. I was amazed with their work - both written and verbal! Keep us posted!

Hi Jamie!I attended the PA Governor's Institute for Early Childhood Educators earlier this month. The focus of the week's program was emotional literacy. If you are interested in finding resources that could help with social/emotional learning, here are 2 websites:

www.csee.net/climate/
I hope this helps!

What books have helped you with your teaching? Do you have a resource/book you couldn't live without? What books do you read when you're not "ankle deep" in paperwork?
What are you reading to your students? Let's talk about books and accompanying learning activities for special needs students!
Welcome Wendy!Your title is a new one for me! What exactly do you do with your student?
Early Intervention is a huge movement in our country. This is the time where intervention can make all the difference for a challenged child. I taught in my local high school for a few years (after a brief time with the county's Early Intervention progrsm) in the Resource Room and realized that half my students wouldn't have qualifed for the most restrictive environment if they were involved in Early Intervention programming.
Good luck to you Wendy in all your endeavors!
I am an Itinerant Early Intervention Special Education teacher in Pennsylvania. I work with 3 to 5 year olds in their preschool program. I've been working with this population for about 8 years. I'm always looking for books that will hold a child's interest and motivate them to explore their environment.
