Hey guys!
So this is our second underrated and underread list voted on by the good folks of www.reddit.com/r/fantasy. Our voting thread can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comm...
We went for books that we felt were underread, overlooked, and generally not mentioned enough on the forum anywhere near often enough, and we set the following requirements on the list:
- Because we run a bingo card as a yearly challenge, we matched the maximum number of ratings to that. The category that corresponds lists a maximum of 3000 Goodreads ratings, but we set that as a soft upper limit, with an upper 'hard' limit of 5000. The bingo card can be found at: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comm...
- Each user could submit no more than ten books or series.
- Books could have no more than ten votes on our 2016 Best Of thread. This was intended to winnow out the books that had just been released as so don't have many GR reviews, but are otherwise very popular. That list can be found here: https://redd.it/4f1jfj
- Books must be speculative fiction. This includes fantasy and soft SF, but no super hard SF. To clarify, if we thought it should fit, it probably should. If it comes down to a discussion of solid current-earth based science in a slightly futuristic setting, it probably shouldn't be there.
Please don't forget: everybody has different opinions about what's underrated and overlooked. Even with the criteria above we're going to get some titles that are mentioned frequently, but still fit in the spirit of the list.
And now that the list has been finished -- IT IS FINISHED. It corresponds to a real world list. So, on Goodreads, please don't add anything to the list. Voting on them is fine. Just wanted to share. Thanks!

Wow, this really does seem like an underread list, because after skimming the first 100, I can't name one book that I've actually heard of.
